Left menu

  • The menu hides behind the left edge of the window and leaves only small marks. On hover the marks grow into bookmarks over the page, which no longer moves or shrinks.
  • Choosing a section, hovering and hiding the menu are all animated.

Community

  • The feed loads in pages as you scroll and shows three days of a chat's plays.
  • Map pictures load for the newest plays first, which fixes feed rows that stayed without a picture.
  • Pictures are ready in memory soon after the app starts.
  • Your profile's cover lies behind the whole page, and friends' covers lie behind their panels.
  • Feed rows fade out at the top edge, as in the replays.
  • Scrolling stays smooth however far down the feed you go.
  • Best plays show mapper avatars.

Rendered videos

  • The PP counter climbs the same way as in the overlay.
  • The leaderboard moves when a player passes a rival, and every rival is shown on the replay's score scale.
  • The difficulty graph no longer has a mark that follows the play.
  • A chat leaderboard comes from the chat a player has pinned.

In-game overlay

  • Ctrl+Shift+O no longer opens the overlay panel. Ctrl+Shift+= and - still change the size, and Ctrl+Shift+H still hides the overlay.

Replays and settings

  • The replay page no longer has a Delete button. A video can still be deleted from its own page.
  • Settings panels go from largest to smallest by default. An order you already set stays.
  • The map's background behind the interface is now for subscribers, with a switch in Settings.
  • Map previews have their own volume, and overly loud tracks are brought down.

Balance desk

  • HD4 and HR4 now have standard names: HD Flex and HR Flex.
  • Kamerton's reasons use plain names for triplets and beat division changes.
  • Who is looking at a card is shown through the shared hover tip.

Interface

  • A page now fades out as a whole when you leave it, including its panels and the left menu.
  • Standing explanations moved into help icons beside their labels.
  • Maps are fetched through more mirrors, and a mirror that refuses is rested.

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Oct 17:50

Dossier 0.97.6 – Pre-release №29

This update reworks the in-game overlay, brings rendered videos closer to osu! and tidies the interface. Version 0.90.0 and newer can update automatically.

In-game overlay

  • The overlay has a plainer look: flat panels, ordinary wording, and notifications drawn like the ones in Dossier.
  • Set its size from 70 to 130% and switch panels on or off in Settings, or use Ctrl+Shift+O, H, = and - in the game.
  • Song select shows a leaderboard for your chat.
  • The Witness tile greets you once for five seconds, then shows only the Dossier mark. When a play is kept, the mark turns into a tick for three seconds.
  • Failed plays are no longer saved unless you turn that on.
  • A kept play can be sent to your chat by holding Tab.

Rendered videos

  • The hit error meter looks like the one in osu!stable.
  • With Hidden, the follow circle stays until the slider ends, and slider ticks fade out when passed, as in the game.
  • Videos made through the bot can show the map's global leaderboard or the chat's, with avatars. The chat's top falls back to the global one when nobody in the chat has played the map.
  • Bot renders play the map's video or storyboard when it has one, at a lower volume, and report a plain state: preparing, rendering or sending.
  • Videos can be encoded on the graphics card, with a switch in Settings.

Community and duels

  • Animated avatars move, and each profile has the player's blurred osu! cover behind it.
  • The duels page is one panel with short how-it-works tiles and calibration progress. The sidebar stays hidden for a whole match, even after a restart.

Balance desk

  • Reviews show a map's tournament tags and explain the slot grade on hover. Supporters can open a map in osu!.
  • FM1 to FM3 are named after the slots they match, and FM4 is gone.

Interface

  • Every hover tip now looks and behaves the same.
  • Close buttons sit on a quiet square backing in the corner of their panel.
  • Panels and screens now appear in place instead of rising into view.

Linux

  • Witness starts inside osu-winello's container, so it reaches the game, hears the overlay's frames and stops with Dossier.

Leaderboards, video and storyboard in bot renders need the matching server update, and a machine lent to the render farm needs this version to draw them.

  • The balance desk no longer keeps showing "Could not refresh the data" when the server is slow: its reads wait up to 45 seconds instead of 12.
  • When reviewing a map, choose how well it fits the slot (exemplary, fits or borderline) and up to three things it tests, such as wide jumps, long streams or low AR. Kamerton learns from both.
  • Catalogue cells list exemplary maps first and mark exemplary and borderline maps on their cards.
  • The model tab follows a training run: its stage, the sets checked and the training steps. Training keeps running on the server if Dossier is closed.
  • Easy and Flashlight slots are gone from the catalogue. Free Mod slots are named after the OWC rules and no longer carry an invented skill.

Grades, reasons and training progress need the matching server update.

Witness remains disabled pending resolution of client-integration restrictions.

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Oct 16:36

Dossier 0.97.4 – Pre-release №27

  • The model tab in the balance desk has an Auto admission column. For each duel slot it shows how many of Kamerton's confident answers were checked and how many were right. Kamerton admits maps on its own only where at least 10 were checked and 90% of them were right; elsewhere only reviewed maps are played.
  • A cancelled duel now says when the osu! room stopped answering during a map or when the map's result never reached the osu! API. Both end without a rating change.
  • Labels in the pool editor, the slot panel and the publish checks use the regular typeface; monospaced type is kept for times, numbers and hashes.

The Auto admission column needs the matching server update and a Kamerton version trained after it; until then it shows a dash.

Witness remains disabled pending resolution of client-integration restrictions.

  • Show the mod-adjusted star rating in the upper-right corner of the review card, with the original NM rating below it. When the server has no rating, Dossier calculates it in the background from the matching map file obtained through mirrors.
  • Restore missing song titles, difficulty names and mapper information for maps added through links. Both mirror lookups now request the mapset information when the map response omits it.
  • Queue rows show the difficulty name beneath the song title. Catalogue rows also use recovered names instead of numeric IDs.
  • Display distinct GRAVEYARD, WIP, PENDING, RANKED, APPROVED, QUALIFIED and LOVED badges instead of grouping statuses under “Unranked”.

Map downloads are bounded and checked against the requested map ID and, when supplied by the server, file checksum. Calculated ratings are cached per revision; they do not change the server's catalogue admission decisions.

Witness remains disabled pending resolution of client-integration restrictions.

Balance and map batches

  • Add individual maps to the catalogue and choose their slots from the balance desk.
  • Browse catalogue bands from 5 to 10 stars and see secondary slots alongside primary assignments.
  • Select a secondary slot while reviewing a map.
  • In smaller windows, the catalogue keeps its table rows at their natural height and scrolls together with the lower panel instead of squeezing the table into a small section.
  • Owners can manage map batches from a dedicated tab. Importing an .osz archive lets you select individual difficulties; failed lookups can be retried through mirrors.
  • The balance journal has clearer entries, filters and operator details for investigating stuck duels.
  • Restored missing Russian and English translations for the catalogue, journal, batches, archive picker, secondary slots and duel operator controls.

Kamerton

  • Automatic map searches appear in the journal under Kamerton, with the requested slot, star range and number of added maps.
  • Training follows the server's job status, reporting completion, unchanged labels, failures and jobs lost after a server restart.
  • Model reports show how many test maps would actually be admitted to duels and how many of those predictions are correct, when the server provides these figures.
  • Skill explanations use readable names and omit unknown feature levels.

Duels

  • Keep the live duel connection active and make search and acceptance timers steadier.

Server update

Update and restart the bot alongside the application to use the new catalogue, batch, secondary-slot and Kamerton job features. Older servers may not provide all of these operations or report fields.

Witness remains disabled pending resolution of client-integration restrictions.

Duels

  • Players searching from the app are now visible to matchmaking before a live duel connection is opened.
  • The app restores the server's queue state and original waiting time. Repeating a search keeps the existing place instead of reporting that the player is already queued.
  • A cancelled duel with an unavailable pool no longer leaves stale queue entries that interfere with later offers.
  • Search and acceptance timers update every second without requiring mouse movement or another server response.

Balance and Kamerton

  • The desk checks for changes every two seconds while open, refreshing maps, labels, catalogue counts and model versions without reopening the tab. Selected maps and unfinished input are preserved.
  • Reviewer presence appears in the relevant tabs and maps. Saved labels and confident assignments can be corrected or moved.
  • Labelling accepts map batches, including batches without tournament slots. The sidebar lists reviewers' own batches; the separate OWC table has been removed.
  • The queue supports star-range filtering and groups difficulties from the same mapset. Map details show clearer difficulty names, BPM, mod-adjusted values and compact slot badges.
  • Map previews in Balance start from the Listen button. Import and other operations show progress and report failures.
  • The workspace and its tabs are centered, catalogue panels fit their content, and the empty map-batch panel is larger and centered. The Back button has a compact size, vertical scrollbars are hidden, and scrolling inside columns no longer dims the application header.
  • Shared controls use quieter dark surfaces, clearer selected states and the existing category colours.

Verification

  • 54 server tests cover duel state transitions, HTTP presence, matchmaking and repeated searches after cancellation.
  • Seven application tests cover duel state and timers. GPU layout checks cover narrow and wide windows; all 26 balance reference screens were checked on hardware wgpu in Russian and English.
  • Interface previews, reference images and card exports use hardware wgpu; software-rendered UI references are no longer used.

Server update

Update and restart the bot alongside the application. The queue and live balance fixes require the matching server changes through commit 4802cc88 in the bot repository. Duels still require Bancho access and enough eligible maps in every required slot; this update does not bypass pool requirements.

Witness remains disabled pending resolution of client-integration restrictions.

Added

  • Duels in Community: rating, wins and losses, finding an opponent, answering offers and challenges, and a live list of everyone's running and just finished duels. A challenge from a player's profile is always friendly.
  • A duel plays out in the app from the room to the result: a meeting screen before every duel, the pool settling into focus, bans and picks confirmed by holding a card, the picked map growing into the round, and a result that counts from the final score to the rating change. Others can watch a running duel live.
  • Resting the cursor on a map card plays its preview; the card pulses to the song's tempo and the preview fades out at its end. Taken maps stay quiet, and the tiebreaker is darkened in the draft.
  • A balance desk for reviewers with a queue of maps to check, labelling of tournament pools, the OWC table, a catalogue of maps by slot and star range, stuck duels, a journal of decisions and the people who hold each role.
  • Kamerton, the slot model, is trained from the desk on tournament pools, reviewers' own tournaments and queue decisions. Each version is checked against every OWC year held out in turn, and can be published, rolled back or deleted. Kamerton reads each map unmodded and through its DT and HR views, and also learns the slots duels do not use yet, such as FM1–FM4 or NM5.
  • Queue maps show CS, AR, OD, HP and length with their slot's mods, Kamerton's reasons with how far the map sits from usual, and what players said about the map. After No, the reviewer picks the slot the map really is.
  • Local scores can be sent without Witness; only the player's own scores are sent.

Changed

  • The score card is built around the chat table, lists best plays as rows and shows the mapper's face.
  • The balance desk scales with the window on large screens, and its reasons are optional; deleting a model version or cancelling a duel asks for a second press.
  • Balance roles are given by osu! id or name and can be taken back.
  • The project is licensed under MIT.

Fixed

  • Map previews play with any ffmpeg the app finds, try a second mirror, and say when no preview exists.
  • Mappers' avatars, animated ones included, load on map cards instead of showing an initial.
  • The header logo no longer flashes over the splash screen at launch.
  • Balance appears in Community without opening Duels first.

Verification

  • GPU (wgpu/Metal) previews cover the duel motions, the queue, the model, people, catalogue and OWC tabs at 980, 1600 and 1920 pixels wide.
  • Regression tests cover hold-to-pick, queue decisions, slot moves, model version handling, role grants, previews and avatar decoding.

Known limitations

  • Duels need the matching server update with Bancho access; until it is deployed, the duel and balance sections stay empty.
  • osu!mania maps converted from osu!standard do not yet have stars, PP or a rendered scene.
  • Witness remains disabled pending resolution of client-integration restrictions.

Changed

  • Left and right arrows open the highlighted closed group, then switch between groups. Wheel input responds immediately, and searching centers the matching group or replay without waiting for the carousel spring.
  • Group expansion is faster and the background follows the last replay row.
  • Ungrouped rows show the map title above the player and date. PP and accuracy remain in the replay details; the mode icon occupies the right edge of the row.
  • Search and filters use translucent backgrounds and animate when opened or closed.
  • Neutral decorative borders and dividers are quieter, red controls are more saturated, and secondary buttons have clearer hover states. The calculation button uses a shorter label.

Fixed

  • Settings panels and skin tiles remain visible when dragged beyond their scrollable area.
  • Workspace and sidebar edges fade gradually. Scrolling shades the full header background.
  • The idle scene waits for its first frame before hiding the interface. Waking keeps the scene and its caption through the outgoing fade, then stops its renderer and releases the retained frame. The selected replay preview remains visible during the transition.

Verification

  • GPU (wgpu/Metal) previews cover search filters, ungrouped rows, scrolling, sidebar fades and dragging settings panels and skins.
  • Regression tests cover carousel navigation, search transitions, drag rendering outside the scroll viewport, idle scene loading and wake cleanup.

Known limitations

  • osu!mania maps converted from osu!standard do not yet have stars, PP or a rendered scene.
  • Witness remains disabled pending resolution of client-integration restrictions.

Fixed

  • Hidden and minimized windows no longer keep animated widgets active. Both live replay renderers suspend in the tray and resume when the window returns, preserving manual pause. Server presence and background export jobs remain available.
  • Live render workers wait for frame requests instead of polling while inactive. Stopping a worker wakes it immediately.
  • The fullscreen idle scene starts whether inactivity is detected by the timer or an animation frame. It requests subsequent frames at about 30 FPS, while hidden carousel animations stop requesting redraws.
  • Group backgrounds reach below the last replay with a small gap before the next group. Replay rows fill the width of their group's background.

Changed

  • Left and right arrows open the highlighted carousel group. Up and down move the highlight. Enter still opens the highlighted item.

Verification

  • Regression tests cover tray suspension and resumption, renderer waiting and shutdown, idle scene startup, carousel arrows and server presence in the tray.
  • Windows CPU usage still needs comparison on testers' machines; no measured reduction is claimed for this release.

Known limitations

  • osu!mania maps converted from osu!standard do not yet have stars, PP or a rendered scene.
  • Witness records osu!standard only. Witness Overlay is not visible in OpenGL fullscreen without compatibility mode (sometimes).
