The OCCT team would like to inform the community that we are preparing a hot patch release for Open CASCADE Technology 8.0.0: OCCT 8.0.0p1.
This hot patch will include several important fixes identified after the OCCT 8.0.0 release. Some of these changes require ABI-breaking modifications. We understand that this may create additional complexity for users and package maintainers, and we apologize for the inconvenience.
Why 8.0.0p1 is needed
OCCT 8.0.0 was a major release and introduced a large number of changes across the platform. Since publication, several fixes have been prepared that we consider important enough to deliver as a hot patch.
The 8.0.0p1 branch will become the foundation for:
Because of the ABI changes included in this hot patch, users who plan to follow future OCCT 8.0.x maintenance releases will be expected to move to 8.0.0p1 as the new baseline.
Planned scope
The hot patch is expected to include fixes related to:
The full list of changes and detailed release notes will be published together with the new tag.
Compatibility note
OCCT 8.0.0 will remain available, and users may continue using it if they do not need the fixes included in 8.0.0p1.
However, due to the ABI-breaking nature of some changes, future OCCT 8.0.x maintenance releases will be based on 8.0.0p1. Therefore, users and downstream projects that plan to follow the 8.0.x maintenance line should prepare to update to 8.0.0p1.
Package managers and binaries
We will update the
vcpkgport after the release and will do our best to support maintainers of other package managers.Binary packages for OCCT 8.0.0p1 will also be provided.
Expected timeline
The 8.0.0p1 tag is expected to be published in the coming days.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and support.
