Is There any way to compact the database on the Sage server? 75,000 files plus, has been slowing things down in the last few years

The answer is yes., but it took me a couple of tries to find the instructions in the old forum. Google was better than DuckDuckGo for site searching.

If you use Intelligent Recordings, you will need to retrain it over time, as the process wipes its memory.

I havent tried it yet... have to wait for my scheduled recordings to stop

You're on a fairly recent version of SageTV, right? Also, not trying to be insulting, only thorough; you stopped the SageTV instance before changing the sage.properties file, correct?

yes, latest ver of Sage, and also stopped it..

Mine's about 86mb. I sometimes get nasty slowdowns (like it goes unresponsive to the remote for several minutes or longer). Tonight, for example, I was trying to pause an it just wouldn't admit that I was talking to it. I even brought up the web interface to see if I could stop playback from there, but the interface wouldn't load. Could database size be to blame? I have fiddled with the Java heap at various points, but nothing conclusive there. My server is on the older side, with components about 15 years old. It has 4 cores and 16gb RAM.

I posted in the SD discussion about how I just updated 8 plugins, and my server got way faster after restart. I have to wait until my recording stops, and I'll try the Narflex fix again.. could have been the problem with the wiz bin not shrinking...it'll be 4 hrs until I can try again... I'll be back with an update

I did try it again after updating the plugins... I lost 1 mb in the wiz bin this time.
