Installing Android Client from Play Store on a new, Fire TV based Hisense....setup questions

I'm trying to set up the Android Mini Client that Josh reworked years ago on a new, Hisense Deco TV.
App was in the Play Store.

Here's the question: is there a best setup to play 1080p OTA recordings as well as 1080 anime videos, as well as regularly recorded material from set top tuners, dvd rips and internet video downloads of varying codecs?

The biggest problem seems to be the 1080p material, as the Hisense has only a wifi connection, as opposed to hard-wired cat5, and the
mini client never liked 1080p much from my recollection.

Things like default player: Exo or IJK? Bitrates? Fixed streaming mode, etc.
