Executable attachments for PHPMailer

So I'm working on my Mail Module and I wanted to test my system and ensure it handles executable attachments properly with warnings. So I sent myself an executable (Classic Calculator) and when I received my own message there was not attachment.

I can only presume that at some point there was a discussion about directly attached executables and concerns over viruses (keeping in mind that a virus can be injected in to any file with enough effort). I could not find any relevant information about executables for PHPMailer though and I would greatly appreciate some clarifications. Thanks!

PHPMailer makes no distinction between attachment types. First of all, make sure your attachment was actually sent. Check that your call to addAttachment returned true. Then enable debug output and verify that you can see the attachment being sent. If the receiving system is stripping the attachment, you will also likely see corruption in the message format and DKIM errors. Try sending an innocuous attachment, like a file only containing "a".

Beyond that, contact your mail server admin to ask what their policy is.

Thank you Synchro for the policy clarification, I ended up being more curious about the policy. In the end I did my testing and added "123" as an executable extension to a standardized array and validated how my system handles/warns about executable attachments. I don't allow directly attaching executables though recommend adding them to a ZIP (programmers sharing their binaries, etc). In the end I simply needed to test with a temporarily "considered" executable.
