.NET has built in functionality for extracting GZ / gzip, like shown here:

PowerShell module for archive has been archived, so won't come to PowerShell natively any time soon.

Originally opened in the .github repo, I got sent there when creating an issue in this repo using the GitHub app for Android.

Seems to be a known issue/shortcoming that issue templates does not work with Android:

@o-l-a-v : How I understand this; the approach supports gz archives only. Do you know if there is any built in codec for tar.xz and other type of file compressors? Pref native .net classes/methods.

I downloaded tar.xz files from ryanoasis/nerd-fonts | GitHub in a Windows Sandbox instance to be sure my dev tools didn't have it included. It can expand it natively it seems. Sorry if you feel its unrelated, just a curiosity if anything. Just thinking if 'only' gz type of compression is 'enough' :)

Support for more archive file formats would be more great, I agree.

I only know of .gz, I came across it when I had the need to decompress logs from Cloudflare Logpush.

Edit 2: Maybe one can piggyback libarchive which Windows is using for adding support for more formats?
