@PateeerQ PateeerQ released this 26 Oct 17:12

Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite Recomp v0.3.1

A native port of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP, EU ULES01213) for Windows and Android,
statically recompiled. No emulator. Maintained by PateeerQ.

The Android app offers this update by itself (drawer → Check for updates).

60 FPS mode (beta)

The game can now run at 60 fps instead of the PSP's 30, at normal game speed.

  • Windows: launcher → 60 FPS (beta), or F4 in game.
  • Android: menu → DISPLAY → 60 FPS (beta).
  • Online: a room runs at the frame rate of its slowest player. If everyone has 60 FPS on, the whole room plays
    at 60; if one player is at 30, everyone plays at 30 (the chat says who), so the hunt stays in step.

It is a beta: if something moves too fast or too slow, turn it off and tell us where it happened.

Windows: volume and mouse camera

  • A Volume slider on the launcher's Play page, and F5 / F6 in game turn it down / up (10 % a press).
  • Mouse camera: hold the right mouse button and move the mouse to turn the camera. F7 turns mouse
    look on (no button to hold; F7 again or switching windows turns it off). Its speed: launcher → Mouse camera.
  • An Options menu in the game window (next to Multiplayer and Help): Volume, Mouse camera sensitivity,
    Mouse look. What you choose there is kept for the next start.

Android: new touch controls

  • The camera is a swipe: drag anywhere away from the buttons to turn it. The old CAM stick is gone.

Android: a better Join Server list

  • Smaller rows, a search box (code or room name) and a Refresh button; the list scrolls.
  • Every room shows its players, LAN or Internet, a 🔒 for a passcode, 60 FPS / 30 FPS, and its ping in ms
    (green, yellow, red). The nearest rooms come first.
  • The Windows room list shows the frame rate and ping as well.

Android: saves

  • Load from folder (menu → Save folder): take the saves from your save folder into the game (for example
    ones copied from a PC); the game restarts to read them.
  • A save folder chosen at any level now works: the memory stick folder, its SAVEDATA folder, or a single save
    folder.

@PateeerQ PateeerQ released this 25 Oct 18:24

Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite Recomp v0.2.2

A native port of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP, EU ULES01213) for Windows and Android,
statically recompiled. No emulator. Maintained by PateeerQ.

The Android app offers this update by itself (drawer → Check for updates).

Android: your saves in a folder you can see

Like PPSSPP's memory stick folder: choose a folder (for example Documents/MHFU, "Use this folder") and your saves
are kept there as PSP/SAVEDATA/ULES01213/....

  • They survive Clear data and reinstalling. Choose the same folder again and they come back.
  • Copied there every few seconds while you play, and when you leave the app.
  • At every start the folder and the app are compared file by file; the newer save wins.
  • Nothing is ever deleted from the folder: a save the game removes stays there as a backup.
  • The app asks once at setup; the menu's Save folder shows or changes it any time.

Moving a save between PC and phone: copy the ULES01213 folder from the PC's work\root\ms\PSP\SAVEDATA\ into
<your save folder>/PSP/SAVEDATA/ on the phone (or the other way), then close the app fully and open it again.
Saves from PPSSPP or a real PSP do not work yet (the PSP encrypts them).

v0.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@PateeerQ PateeerQ released this 25 Oct 17:47

Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite Recomp v0.2.1

A native port of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP, EU ULES01213) for Windows and Android,
statically recompiled. No emulator. Maintained by PateeerQ.

Mostly Android fixes. The app offers this update by itself (drawer → Check for updates).

Android

  • Easier setup: just the .iso and the EBOOT. The PSP fonts are now taken from the PPSSPP you already have
    installed (PPSSPP for Android keeps them inside its app, where you could not reach them). No more hunting
    for .pgf files.
  • Games chosen with the folder picker start again. A disc picked from your own folders (for example
    Emulator/PSP) was refused by Android and the game closed straight away.
  • The right EBOOT is picked when a folder holds several: only the Europe version of MHFU (ULES01213) is taken,
    other games' and other regions' are ignored.
  • Resolution setting (drawer → Display): 1x to 4x, after a restart.
  • Change game files (drawer): pick a new folder; your saves stay.
  • Black screen after switching apps: the game now pauses while in the background and draws again when you come back.
  • Join and leave notices in the room chat ("… joined the server").
  • RetroAchievements now recognise a disc chosen through the folder picker.

Windows

  • Join and leave notices in the room chat.

Playing together

Multiplayer → Create Server → Internet on one side, Join Server on the others; then the Gathering Hall
as usual. Press SELECT in a room to chat.

v0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@PateeerQ PateeerQ released this 25 Oct 16:51

New in 0.2.0

  • Online multiplayer over the internet. Create Server → Internet opens a room on the project's relay;
    friends anywhere choose Join Server and pick it (or type its code, MH-XXXX). No port forwarding.
    PC and Android play together. This network still makes LAN rooms.
  • Room chat. MHFU has none, so while in a room press SELECT to type a message. Lines show top-left,
    with notices when someone joins or leaves.
  • About pages ("Maintained by PateeerQ"), a new icon, and the app name Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite Recomp.
  • Android: landscape both ways, a scrollable menu, and Check for updates that installs the new APK.

FreedomUniteRecomp-v0.2.0-android-arm64.apk Android 8+, 64-bit ARM, OpenGL ES 3.0

You need your own copy of the game

No game files come with this release.

  1. The disc image: Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (Europe), ULES01213, as an .iso.
  2. Its decrypted EBOOT: in PPSSPP, Settings → Tools → Developer tools → Dump decrypted EBOOT.BIN on game boot,
    then start the game once (ULES01213_EBOOT.BIN).
  3. The PSP's fonts: the .pgf files from PPSSPP's assets/flash0/font.

Windows: put the fonts in work\root\flash0\font, open mhfu_launcher.exe, choose the ISO and the EBOOT under
Advanced, then DEPART. If SmartScreen warns, choose More info → Run anyway.
Android: allow installing unknown apps, install the APK, put the ISO, the EBOOT and the fonts in one folder on
the phone; the app asks for that folder the first time ("Use this folder").

Playing together

  1. One player: Multiplayer → Create Server → Internet (a 4-digit passcode is optional).
  2. The others: Join Server → pick the room.
  3. Everyone goes online in the game as usual (the Gathering Hall), then takes a quest together.

Known: other hunters move in short bursts in the Gathering Hall (the game's own hall protocol); quests are smooth.
