The first public beta of Pip, a calm, Apple TV–style home screen for Android TV and Google TV, with a remote on your phone.
Downloads
- pip-tv.apk: the TV app ("Pip OS"). Android 8 or newer, 15 MB.
- pip-remote.apk: the Android phone remote (optional; the web remote needs no install). 11 MB.
What's in 0.9
- Five layouts: Calm, Spotlight, App icons, Mosaic, Widgets. Twelve public-domain 4K landscapes.
- Make it yours (press Menu): background, tiles, names, font, clock, theme, reset.
- Inputs: TV and each HDMI port as cards; hold OK to name what's plugged in.
- Quick settings: sleep timer, screen saver, Wi‑Fi, picture, sound, turn off, storage and memory.
- Clean up: tick apps to hide or uninstall together; free up memory.
- Hold OK on an app: open, move, add or remove from the home row, hide, uninstall.
- Phone remote like Apple's: one screen, 4-digit pairing, shortcuts to the TV's Inputs and Quick settings, Send to TV (share or paste a YouTube or Netflix link).
- First-run setup, UI sounds, 60 fps focus moves in four of five layouts on a 1.8 GB TV.
Install
On the TV, open Downloader (by AFTVnews), type this and press Install Pip:
piptv.github.io
or adb install pip-tv.apk. Full steps: https://piptv.github.io/os/#install
Known limits in this beta
- The phone remote controls other apps (Netflix, YouTube…) only after you turn on network debugging and allow Pip once on the TV.
- Google TV sends the Home button to its own launcher; Pip's optional accessibility helper brings you back.
- No iPhone app yet (the web remote works on iPhone).
