📢 Shifting Focus: Code Quality Sprint (UI PRs on Hold)

📢 What's Changing

DevTrack has grown fast — 138+ stars, 388+ forks, 245+ contributors, 800+ merged PRs. That's amazing, but it also means our codebase has accumulated some debt along the way: inconsistent patterns, thin test coverage in places, and code that was written for speed during GSSoC rather than long-term maintainability.

Starting now, we're pausing new UI/feature PRs and shifting focus entirely to code quality.

🎯 What This Means

On hold for now:

• New UI components, pages, or visual features
• New feature additions that aren't tied to a cleanup effort

What we want PRs on instead:

• 🧪 Tests — unit tests, integration tests, increasing coverage on core modules
• 🔧 Refactoring — cleaning up duplicated logic, improving naming, breaking down bloated files/functions
• 📐 Code structure — better separation of concerns, consistent patterns across the codebase
• 🐛 Bug fixes — especially ones uncovered while writing tests
• 📝 Documentation — inline comments, docstrings, contributing guidelines for the new standards
• ⚡ Performance — fixing inefficiencies in core logic

❓ Why

A growing contributor base is only sustainable if the codebase underneath it is solid. Right now, more UI surface area means more places for bugs to hide and more friction for new contributors trying to understand the code. We want DevTrack's foundation to match its growth before we keep building on top of it.

🙋 What Should You Do

• If you have an open UI PR, it'll still be reviewed, but expect slower turnaround — these aren't a priority right now.
• If you want to contribute, check the issues labeled cleanup, tests-needed, or refactor (we'll be tagging these over the next few days).
• If you have ideas on areas that need cleanup, open an issue and tag it tech-debt.

This phase will last a few weeks — once the core is in a healthier state, we'll reopen UI contributions with clearer guidelines.
