Weights
In the context of GPT-J and other neural network models, a weight refers to a numerical value that is associated with a connection between two neurons in the network.
Neural networks are composed of layers of interconnected neurons, with each neuron performing a simple computation on its inputs and passing the result to the next layer of neurons. The connections between neurons are represented by numerical values called weights, which determine the strength of the connection between two neurons. The weights are adjusted during the training process of the model in order to optimize the model's performance on a specific task.
In GPT-J, the weights are learned through a process called backpropagation, which involves propagating errors backward through the network and adjusting the weights of each layer based on the calculated gradients, in order to improve the model's performance on the specific task or tasks for which it is being trained.
The weights in GPT-J and other neural network models are typically represented as multidimensional arrays, with the dimensions of the array corresponding to the number of neurons in the current layer and the previous layer. The size and structure of the weight arrays depend on the specific architecture of the model, and they can be quite large for complex models like GPT-J.
