Customizing the Q&A pages

Not finished yet. easyQ Q&A is in early development and not ready for live sites. Try it on a test site only.

Every Q&A page is a template made of blocks. With a block theme you change them in the Site Editor, like the templates of your theme.

Edit a template

  1. Go to Appearance → Editor → Templates.
  2. Open a template whose name starts with Q&A:, for example:
    • Q&A: Home: the start page with the recent questions
    • Q&A: Question: a question with its answers and comments
    • Q&A: Ask a question: the form for new questions
    • Q&A: User profile: the profile of a user
  3. Move, remove or add blocks, change colors and spacing in the block settings, and save.

Templates you have changed are marked as customized. To go back to the original, open the template's menu (⋮) and choose Reset.

The header and footer come from your theme, so the Q&A pages fit the rest of your site. easyQ ships no stylesheet of its own: fonts, colors and spacing follow your theme's styles under Appearance → Editor → Styles.

Use patterns

easyQ includes block patterns for a quick start. In the block inserter, open Patterns → Questions and answers:

  • Q&A start page, Q&A question page and Q&A user profile: complete layouts for the templates
  • Recent questions (compact) and Top users (compact): small lists for a sidebar or your front page

Q&A blocks on other pages

The Q&A blocks also work outside the Q&A area. A Question List on your front page can show the latest questions, a User List the top users, and the Ask Box invites visitors to ask. See Blocks and patterns for all blocks.

Classic themes

Classic themes have no Site Editor. easyQ shows its pages between the header and footer of the theme, with a fixed layout.
