Ignore (i.e. do not use) the SEB Service (which is also the default value), see https://safeexambrowser.org/windows/win_usermanual_en.html#SecurityPane. The standard kiosk mode Create New Desktop should however be perfectly fine to use and is furthermore the recommended choice. |

I am IT administrator in a secondary school where we often use Safe Exam Browser (3.10) for digital assessments (combined with the examination platform Bookwidgets). We often experience that after a SEB exam pupils cannot shut down their laptop correctly ('No power options available' where they should see the Shutdown and Restart buttons in Windows).
As students do not have admin rights on the (school-owned) devices, SEB Reset Utility is difficult and always requires intervention from an administrator.
Which settings in the SEB configurations could help this?
ChatGPT told me: 'ignore SEB session' and 'Disable explorer shell' (instead of 'Create new desktop'), while Gemini exactly tells me the opposite...
So my question: what are the best settings to minimize this kind of problems? (I am okay if it is slightly less secure, as long as the basic functionality of SEB keeps working.)
Thanks in advance!
