Y2Linux 1.0 Beta 3: better Bluetooth sound for AAC headphones, and fewer dropouts on a weak link. Linux 6.18 and the native Reborn music player for the Innioasis Y2.

Already running Y2Linux

Settings → About & Updates → Check for Updates → Download Update → Restart and Install.

What's new

  • Better AAC sound (AirPods and most other AAC headphones): the encoder's high-quality mode, at the highest rate the headphones accept (AirPods: 256 kbit/s instead of 220). Each audio frame still fits one radio packet, so headphones that can't reassemble split frames keep working.
  • Fewer dropouts: on a weak link (distance, walls, a busy Wi-Fi) the AAC rate now steps down by itself (256 → 192 → 160 → 128 kbit/s) instead of starving the headphones, and climbs back after about 10 seconds of a clear link. LDAC already did this; AAC now does too.
  • SBC XQ for SBC-only headphones can be chosen without the experimental switch (System → SBC Quality; the default stays Standard).
  • Nothing to set up: the new behaviour is on by default. The System menu has AAC Quality and AAC Auto Rate for trying the alternatives.
  • Faster, cleaner release builds behind the scenes (one build workspace, parallel package builds, sources uploaded only when they change).

Install (from stock)

You need SP Flash Tool v5.2032, a USB cable, Y2Linux-1.0.0-beta.3-first-install.zip below and the Innioasis Y2 firmware package v3.2.0 from Innioasis (also your way back to stock).

  1. Unpack both.
  2. SP Flash Tool → Download Only → load MT6582_Android_scatter.txt from the Y2Linux zip. Exactly BOOTIMG, RECOVERY, ANDROID and USRDATA are ticked.
  3. Click Download and connect the switched-off Y2; wait for the green tick.
  4. Unplug and press Power: Y2Linux and Reborn start, music works.
  5. Connect the Y2 to the computer and copy (don't move) system.img from the Innioasis package onto the Firmware drive. The player takes the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth firmware from it and turns the radios on.

Known issues (beta)

  • Battery life in sleep is not yet stock-like (about 9 mA vs stock 1.3 mA).
  • The new AAC settings were built and checked on the computer; listening tests and a range test on the device follow the first over-the-air installs.
  • Rarely a slow display start after a restart (the picture starts anyway); if the panel stays dark, hold Power for 10 s.
  • The player cannot detect wired headphones yet: "jack" means "no Bluetooth headphones connected".
  • Tested on one hardware revision and one player. A kernel that hangs before its rescue system can only be fixed with SP Flash Tool.
