Y2Linux 1.0 Beta 7.9: Internal Storage for every player. Linux 6.18 and the native Reborn music player for the Innioasis Y2.

Already running Y2Linux

Settings → About & Updates → Check for Updates → Update Now.

New: Internal Storage on every player

  • The player's own 5.4 GB storage becomes Internal Storage by itself, at the first start (on players updated from an earlier beta: at the first restart after the update). Until now this needed a command over SSH.
  • Nothing you had there is lost without asking: if the old Innioasis storage holds only leftovers, it is set up at once; your files up to about 400 MB are kept and appear in Internal Storage → Old Player Files; a larger library stays untouched — the player asks once, shows the old files read-only as Old Storage over USB so you can copy them to a computer, and Settings → Storage → Set Up Internal Storage finishes the job.
  • Every step is recorded: a power cut in the middle continues at the next start. It never runs while an update is still being checked or on a low battery.
  • Every player now has exactly the same storage layout.

Fixed

  • Radio firmware (issue #39): system.img now goes into the Firmware folder on Internal Storage, where any size fits (also an unpacked 860 MB copy). On a player without Internal Storage a copy that does not fit now says Not Enough Space for That File instead of failing silently.
  • SD cards (issue #44): a card pulled out while in use is mounted again; a damaged card says Needs repair · Check it on a computer instead of No SD card.

Everything from Beta 7.8 (Last.fm scrobbling) and earlier is included.

Install (from stock)

You need SP Flash Tool v5.2032, a USB cable, Y2Linux-1.0.0-beta.7.9-first-install.zip below and the Innioasis Y2 firmware package v3.2.0 from Innioasis (also your way back to stock).

  1. Unpack both.
  2. SP Flash Tool → Download Only → load MT6582_Android_scatter.txt from the Y2Linux zip. Exactly BOOTIMG, RECOVERY, ANDROID and USRDATA are ticked.
  3. Click Download and connect the switched-off Y2; wait for the green tick.
  4. Unplug and press Power: the player sets up its Internal Storage (a few seconds), then Y2Linux and Reborn start, music works.
  5. Connect the Y2 to the computer and copy (don't move) system.img from the Innioasis package into the Firmware folder on Internal Storage. The player takes the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth firmware from it and turns the radios on.

Known issues (beta)

  • The automatic storage setup for a large old library and a power cut during the setup are tested on the computer; the everyday case is checked on a player with this release.
  • The 12- or 24-hour clock follows the time zone; there is no switch yet.
  • FM radio is in the works for a later beta.
  • Battery life in sleep is not yet stock-like (about 8 mA vs stock 1.3 mA). The player cannot detect wired headphones yet.

Files

  • Y2Linux-1.0.0-beta.7.9-first-install.zip: images, scatter files and checksums for SP Flash Tool. The data image has no SSH key (developers: tools/production/first_owner.py).

  • Y2Linux-1.0.0-beta.7.9-sources-buildroot-legal-info.tar (licences, manifests, this project's packages) and the third-party sources and Linux source linked below: corresponding sources. Our own code: Y2Linux and Y2Reborn at tag baseline-72.
