Y2Linux 1.0 Beta 7.11: faster copying to the player. Linux 6.18 and the native Reborn music player for the Innioasis Y2.

Already running Y2Linux

Settings → About & Updates → Check for Updates → Update Now.

New: copying to the player is about three times faster

  • Music copied from a computer over USB now arrives at about 25–30 MB/s on Internal Storage and about 23 MB/s on the SD card (before: 9–10 MB/s). A 1 GB album folder takes well under a minute instead of almost two.
  • The player stays responsive while copying: the USB driver now hands whole blocks to the DMA engine instead of the processor reading every 512-byte packet itself.
  • Copying from the player to the computer stays at about 38 MB/s.

Checked on a real player with every byte compared: files of every awkward size on both storages, hundreds of small files, folders moved between Internal Storage and the SD card, more than 1.5 GB in one go, and copies from KDE Dolphin.

Everything from Beta 7.10 (reliable USB copy, move and delete) and earlier is included.

Install (from stock)

You need SP Flash Tool v5.2032, a USB cable, Y2Linux-1.0.0-beta.7.11-first-install.zip below and the Innioasis Y2 firmware package v3.2.0 from Innioasis (also your way back to stock).

  1. Unpack both.
  2. SP Flash Tool → Download Only → load MT6582_Android_scatter.txt from the Y2Linux zip. Exactly BOOTIMG, RECOVERY, ANDROID and USRDATA are ticked.
  3. Click Download and connect the switched-off Y2; wait for the green tick.
  4. Unplug and press Power: the player sets up its Internal Storage (a few seconds), then Y2Linux and Reborn start, music works.
  5. Connect the Y2 to the computer and copy (don't move) system.img from the Innioasis package into the Firmware folder on Internal Storage. The player takes the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth firmware from it and turns the radios on.

Known issues (beta)

  • The faster copy path has not yet been tested with the cable pulled in the middle of a copy, across sleep, or with Windows Explorer. Developers can switch back to the old path over SSH: echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/11200000.usb/rx_dma.
  • Copying a very large file or folder within the player can take longer than some computers wait for; the copy then still finishes on the player.
  • The 12- or 24-hour clock follows the time zone; there is no switch yet.
  • FM radio is in the works for a later beta.
  • Battery life in sleep is not yet stock-like (about 8 mA vs stock 1.3 mA). The player cannot detect wired headphones yet.

Files

  • Y2Linux-1.0.0-beta.7.11-first-install.zip: images, scatter files and checksums for SP Flash Tool. The data image has no SSH key (developers: tools/production/first_owner.py).
