0.11.0 · Polso

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 04 Nov 18:28

Polso is Italian for pulse: Vedetta now takes the pulse of your network, for everyone.

  • The network doctor. A new tile of the Network card, Network health, opens a screen with four checks: two devices on the same address, a device that restarts again and again, many devices that drop together (a switch, an access point, the power), and a gateway that suddenly answers slower. Each finding says who, what, since when and what to do, and you can hide the ones you already know about. Phones are left out of the checks on drops: their Wi-Fi sleeps on purpose. The doctor only reads what Vedetta already measures and sends nothing to your devices.
  • Networks wider than a /24. On a /22 or wider, the gateway tile shows the real subnet and counts every device in it, and the devices Home Assistant sees on that network are grouped as one network, not one per /24.
  • A quieter log. With Networks seen by Home Assistant on, the reading is written in the log when something changes, not every minute.
  • Pick the hour of the nightly maintenance. A new option, Night maintenance · Hour, moves it away from 03:00, for example when backups run at the same time.
  • Only Home Assistant can open the app. Requests from the host itself are refused too: with the host network, another app could otherwise reach Vedetta without signing in.

Thank you to everyone who shared an export: the doctor was checked against weeks of real home networks before being switched on. And thanks to the people who reported the /24 in Discussion #15, to the people on Reddit who reviewed the code, and to whoever asked for the night hour in Discussion #18.

0.10.0 · Ponte

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 30 Oct 16:33

Ponte is Italian for bridge: Home Assistant and Vedetta, and the networks Vedetta cannot reach on its own.

  • Devices on other networks. If the integration of your router in Home Assistant tracks the devices of a network Vedetta does not scan (a VLAN for smart-home devices, a guest network), Vedetta can now show them: menu → Networks seen by Home Assistant. It is off until you turn it on, it reads only what Home Assistant already knows (address, MAC, name, connected or away) and it never probes these devices. The ones you adopt get a card like the others, in the group of their type, and their name, type and brand can be changed.
  • Fewer wrong names on cards. A card no longer keeps an automatic name that was announced by another device: when the device behind the card sends a different DHCP fingerprint from the one that announced the name (a device that takes an address another one had), the name stops applying. Names you chose, or that come from Home Assistant, are never touched.
  • The right message after Share with HA. It used to say Removed when a device was added and the reverse, and a failed save showed the error and the success message together.
  • A quicker plain export. The Export (plain) button no longer waits for the size estimate, and the estimate is asked again, up to three times, when it fails.

Thank you to everyone who shared an export: real networks made this release possible.

0.9.0 · Sintonia

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 26 Oct 20:22

Sintonia is Italian for tuning, being in tune: one more language, cards that stay true to their devices, a steadier page and a quiet check of how your network is doing.

  • German. The whole page, the Configuration tab and the documentation line, as a first translation that a native speaker has not read yet: corrections are welcome.
  • A card no longer stays online because of someone else's address. When two devices swap addresses, the wrong card does not stay online and the two cards swap their addresses.
  • A steadier Network card, and no scroll bars drawn. An open screen is not lost when the page refreshes by itself, the log sits where it should in the narrow layout, and the side column keeps its height.
  • Gentler on slow devices. Their full port scan goes in small steps and resumes where it stopped, and heavy background scans pause while the system is busy.
  • Fewer false port alerts. A device that does not answer a scan is no longer reported as having closed ports.
  • A clearer log. It now says why two cards of one phone were not merged.
  • A first network health check, running quietly. It keeps its findings for 90 days in the local database and shows them only in the debug mode (three taps on the logo) while it collects data; a later release will switch it on for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who shared an export: real networks made this release possible.

0.8.0 · Vetrina

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 18 Oct 16:52

Vetrina is Italian for shop window: the page you open every day, redrawn so that what matters is the first thing you see.

  • A new Network card in the Home Assistant style: the state of the network at a glance, a tile that rotates between latency, gateway, Internet connection and what Vedetta knows, a full-width search and one scan button. Light and dark.
  • Devices found, where you look. The list opens inside the Network card, with plain icon buttons and the full MAC address.
  • A tidier device card. Each fact appears once, Customize card and Ignore sit in a three-dots menu, and the pop-ups behind the (i) are compact.
  • Foldable groups. Each group closes from its heading, and Vedetta remembers what you closed.
  • An update tells you. A red dot on the menu button shows when a new version is available.
  • You decide what leaves your network. Three switches in the Configuration tab, all on by default: the public IP check, the path to the Internet and the update of the manufacturer list. A function that is off sends nothing.
  • A simpler Configuration tab. Short names and descriptions in English, Italian and Czech, the log level first, and no language option: the page follows Home Assistant, and each person picks theirs in the menu. If you had set options that are gone, Home Assistant may write a one-line warning in the log: nothing else changes.
  • An accurate MQTT tile. It counts only what you share and follows the broker as it changes.
  • Smaller things: the menu shows how many devices are ignored, the buttons share one size, the pause window is narrower.
  • Fixed: the scan button stretching at a click, a grey box when tapping on a phone, the space under the card, the three taps on the logo for the debug mode, and the badge of the advanced search.

Thank you to everyone who shared an export: real networks made this release possible.

0.7.1 · Calibro

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 16 Oct 08:35

Calibro is Italian for caliper: precision in dimensions, alignment and diagnostic inspection.

  • Found devices card alignment & dimensions: Perfectly aligned top action buttons (Add all, Cancel) with row action buttons (Add, Ignore) with zero-pixel offset across desktop and mobile screens; widened buttons to prevent text wrapping across all languages.
  • Enriched Diagnostic Bundle: New state/analysis.json providing clear, privacy-safe diagnostic inspection of device analysis states and confidence scores without leaking personal or device names; atomic MQTT connection status in manifest.json.
  • Privacy & Security hardening: User notes sanitized against invisible Unicode characters (zero-width spaces, bidi overrides) and proper names; injection resistance for problem reporting.
  • Home Assistant MQTT IP Diagnostic Sensor: Dedicated IP address diagnostic sensor added to shared devices in Home Assistant via extensible MQTT component discovery.
  • UI refinements: Device report flag icon styled in primary theme blue; animated analysis indicator dots.

Thank you to everyone who shared diagnostic reports and feedback.

Versione Italiana

Calibro: precisione millimetrica nelle dimensioni, negli allineamenti e nell'ispezione diagnostica.

  • Hardening sicurezza e privacy: note utente sanitizzate contro caratteri Unicode invisibili (spazi a larghezza zero, override bidirezionali) e nomi propri; schermatura da prompt injection nelle segnalazioni.

Vedetta 0.7.0 · Lente

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 13 Oct 17:43

🔍 Vedetta 0.7.0 · Lente

Lente is Italian for lens: Vedetta now looks closer — and it is built so that you can trust what it tells you.

What's new

  • 🔍 It says when it doesn't know. A device it cannot name with confidence gets a lens on its icon (a clock while it settles, a question mark after a week) instead of a confident wrong guess. The analysis is read-only: it changes nothing and sends nothing to your devices.
  • 🧾 Every guess comes with its proof. Open any card and see the clues that decided it. This release fixes the clues that misled: a router brand called Tenda is no longer a curtain, an inverter is no longer a PC, WiiM players are audio, UniFi and MikroTik clients stop being "routers".
  • ✅ Checked on real networks, not on hunches. Each fix to the recognition started as a test that failed, and had to pass against more than 400 devices from real home networks shared by users, and thousands of generated cases, before it was allowed in.
  • 🛡️ Safe by design. Vedetta checks what a device announces before asking it anything, stays away from printing and industrial ports, and the export hides more of your home. Still no cloud, no account, no telemetry.
  • 🤚 A way to leave a device alone. The engine can now keep away from a fragile device (normal, calm, or none): the switch on the page comes in a later release.
  • 🏠 Home Assistant. The share button waits for MQTT; repeaters and big networks are steadier.
  • ➕ Newly added devices. They keep the ports the search saw (a slow device, such as a cheap video recorder, no longer starts with none), the Alexa label expiscor is never taken for a name, and the invitation to star the project waits two days of use.
  • 🧱 Rebuilt inside. Small modules, brand tables as plain data files, a pinned base image: easier to read, fix and extend.

Thank you to everyone who shared an export: real networks made this release possible.

🔍 Vedetta 0.7.0 · Lente (italiano)

Vedetta 0.6.2 · Respiro

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 09 Oct 10:46

🌬️ Vedetta 0.6.2 · Respiro

Respiro is Italian for breath. A small update that lets your network breathe: Vedetta no longer asks every address of the network at every check, which a weak Wi-Fi, a repeater or a mesh could feel as a burst. Thank you to everyone who reported it, with such careful tests.

What's new

  • 🪶 Lighter checks on a normal network (up to a /24). The whole network is asked once every 5 minutes, to find new devices. The checks in between ask only the devices that are configured: for 46 devices, 46 requests instead of about 625. Every request is spaced 20 ms from the next, instead of a burst of about 500 packets a second.

What changes for you

  • A new device can take up to 5 minutes to appear, and a device that changed address is followed within 5 minutes.
  • Scan network and the refresh by hand still ask the whole network at once.
  • Presence of the known devices works as before.

Vedetta 0.6.1 · Velo

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 09 Oct 07:20

🎉 Vedetta 0.6.1 · Velo

Velo is Italian for veil. A small update, with one thing at heart: your privacy when you send an export.

What's new

  • 🕵️ The export for the developer hides more of your home. Domain names (a family name, a dynamic-DNS address such as nas.home.example.com) and IPv6 addresses are now hidden too, and the safety check before the file is made looks for them. Public infrastructure (github.com, pool.ntp.org, ...) and file names stay readable. IP addresses, MAC addresses, names and e-mails were already hidden.
  • 🧪 Found with a new test that fills a house with random addresses, names and domains and checks that nothing is left in the file.

Vedetta 0.6.0 · Babele

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 09 Oct 06:58

🎉 Vedetta 0.6.0 · Babele

Babele is Italian for Babel. Vedetta now speaks more languages, and understands yours. It is a calm, careful update: the first translation made by the community, a language that follows your Home Assistant, and more care for large networks. Thank you to hruba202 for the Czech, and to everyone who sent a report and an export.

What's new

  • 🌍 Čeština, the first translation by the community. Děkujeme, hruba202!
  • 🗣️ A language list in the menu: one field with a globe replaces the buttons, in the colours of the app, ready for many more languages. Adding yours takes no code: copy the en folder, translate the texts, open a pull request (how).
  • 🏠 Your language, from Home Assistant: Vedetta follows the language of Home Assistant (or of your browser), and each person can pick their own. The choice is kept for their Home Assistant user, so it follows them to every browser and device; Automatic gives it back. The option language is now auto by default (an installation that has en or it set keeps it as the default for everyone).
  • 🧭 Large networks, asked by blocks: up to a /24 the whole network is asked as always. On a wider network (a /16 has 65,534 addresses) each check asks the network around the machine, the known devices and one more block of 256 addresses, in turn: the list fills in block by block and goes on after a restart.
  • 🛡️ Guards for the check: two automatic checks are never closer than 10 seconds (a refresh asked by hand is immediate), an arp-scan that does not end is closed after a minute, and the log tells once an hour how the checks went, with a warning if they come in a chain or one is slow.
  • 📋 Export for analysis now says how the service is doing (how big the network is, how long the checks take, memory), never an address or a name.
  • ⭐ The star on the menu opens the project page at its README.

Vedetta 0.5.0 · Telaio

Choose a tag to compare

@Sived80 Sived80 released this 08 Oct 14:29

🎉 Vedetta 0.5.0 · Telaio

Telaio is Italian for frame. The frame of Vedetta has been rebuilt — and on top of it come new windows, new small joys and a lot of care. This is a big, happy update. Thank you to everyone who sent a report and an export: several fixes in this version come straight from them.

What's new

  • 🗂️ Search methods, in three tabs. Initial, Associative and Deep, each with its functions in panels by risk and counters that follow your switches. Every change is saved in order, even if you click fast.
  • 👁️ Ignored devices, redone. A fixed-size window, the three dots on every row with Restore and the new Forget (the app forgets what it remembers about the device), a round + to ignore by hand, and Restore all / Forget all. Every action has a 5-second countdown: the pressed item becomes Undo with a colour sliding across it, and a notice says what happened.
  • ⌨️ Guided typing for MAC and IP addresses: the colons appear by themselves, and in an IP the right arrow writes the dot.
  • 🧭 Two different devices at one address. When the router hands the same address to two devices that are on in turn (a laptop and a console), the card keeps the name you chose — always — and Vedetta now says so, with the reasons. It stays silent when it cannot be sure.
  • ⭐ A small invitation, once. After a few days, a star on the menu button invites you to star the project. It is just a link, shown once in the life of an installation; nothing is sent anywhere, and the option star_hint: false switches it off.
  • ⚡ Speed buttons with their times (10 s, 30 s, 1 min) and the version in the menu.
  • 🧱 Tidier code under the hood (frontend in parts, backend in packages) and a long stress test on a real Home Assistant.
