This guide explains how to configure Glitchy's WiFi settings, including switching between Access Point (AP) mode and Client mode.
- Glitchy board with firmware
- Computer with WiFi
- (For client mode) Your WiFi network credentials
| Mode | Description | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Access Point (AP) | Glitchy creates its own network | Default, standalone use |
| Client (Station) | Glitchy joins your network | Integration with existing network |
- Glitchy creates a WiFi network named "Glitchy"
- Default password:
123456789 - Your computer connects directly to Glitchy
- No internet access through this connection
- IP address:
192.168.4.1
- Power on Glitchy
- Wait a few seconds for WiFi to start
- On your computer, connect to "Glitchy" network (default password:
123456789) - Open browser to
http://192.168.4.1
- Glitchy connects to your existing WiFi network
- Access Glitchy from any device on your network
- IP address assigned by your router (DHCP)
In client mode, Glitchy gets a dynamic IP. To find it:
- Serial Monitor: IP is printed at boot
- Router Admin: Check connected devices list
To change the network name, credentials, or mode:
- Open
Code/Glitchy/src/main.cpp - Find the WiFi configuration:
/* This section is for global compiled options */ #define HOST_ACCESS_POINT //Uncomment to have Glitchy host its own wifi network, comment to tell it to connect to an existing network const char* ssid = "YOUR_SSID_HERE"; const char* password = "YOUR_PASSWORD_HERE"; //Set SSID and Password here if hosting access point const char* ap_ssid = "Glitchy"; const char* ap_password = "123456789";
- Modify as needed
- Rebuild and upload firmware
- Wait a moment — WiFi starts within a few seconds of power-on
- Reset device — Press RST button
- Verify mode — May be in client mode instead of AP mode
- Check for interference — Move closer to Glitchy, reduce 2.4GHz congestion
- Verify credentials — Check SSID and password exactly
- Check network — Ensure 2.4GHz (not 5GHz only)
- Check signal — Move Glitchy closer to router
- Check router — Ensure MAC filtering isn't blocking
If you've configured client mode but can't connect:
- Re-flash firmware with default AP configuration
- Use a strong password
- Default credentials should be changed
- Anyone nearby can attempt connection
- Network traffic passes through your network
- Consider network segmentation for security
Note: A future firmware version may allow WiFi configuration directly through the web interface without code changes.
