🚀 Getting Started

Prerequisites

  • Node.js (v14 or higher)
  • npm or yarn
  • Backend API running (for full functionality)

Installation

# 1. Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME/frontend-web-app.git

# 2. Navigate to project directory
cd frontend-web-app

# 3. Install dependencies
npm install

# 4. Create .env file
# Add your backend API URL

# 5. Start the development server
npm run dev

# Or for Create React App:
npm start

The app will open at http://localhost:5173 (Vite) or http://localhost:3000 (CRA)

⚙️ Environment Variables

Create a .env file in the root directory:

# Backend API URL
VITE_API_URL=http://localhost:5000/api/v1
# For Create React App use:
# REACT_APP_API_URL=http://localhost:5000/api/v1

# App Configuration
VITE_APP_NAME=My App
VITE_APP_VERSION=1.0.0

⚠️ Note: Restart the dev server after changing .env file

📱 Application Pages

Public Pages

  • Home (/) - Landing page with app information
  • Login (/login) - User authentication
  • Register (/register) - New user registration

Protected Pages (Requires Authentication)

  • Dashboard (/dashboard) - User dashboard
  • Profile (/profile) - User profile management
  • Settings (/settings) - Account settings

🔧 Key Features Explained

Authentication Flow

  1. Registration:

    • User fills registration form
    • Data sent to backend API
    • Token received and stored in localStorage
    • User redirected to dashboard
  2. Login:

    • User enters credentials
    • Token received from backend
    • Token stored in localStorage
    • User redirected to dashboard
  3. Protected Routes:

    • Check for token in localStorage
    • Verify token with backend
    • Allow/deny access based on authentication

API Integration

// Example API call with Axios
import axios from 'axios';

const API_URL = import.meta.env.VITE_API_URL;

// Login function
export const login = async (email, password) => {
  const response = await axios.post(`${API_URL}/auth/login`, {
    email,
    password,
  });

  if (response.data.token) {
    localStorage.setItem('token', response.data.token);
  }

  return response.data;
};

// Get user profile
export const getProfile = async () => {
  const token = localStorage.getItem('token');

  const response = await axios.get(`${API_URL}/auth/me`, {
    headers: {
      Authorization: `Bearer ${token}`,
    },
  });

  return response.data;
};

🎨 Styling Approach

  • CSS3 - Custom styling with modern features
  • Flexbox & Grid - Responsive layouts
  • CSS Variables - Theme customization
  • Media Queries - Mobile-first responsive design
  • Animations - Smooth transitions and effects
