there is an auto-start feature for CD Logger already, auto save feature for CDL file, but does not have auto load CDL file at start like it implemented in fceux.

file name to load may be auto selected by the current rom file name (.cdl) or base on the data base entry name...

ok, not sure this option does exactly what I need here.
tried it a couple of times:

1. started recently opened rom again with goodness filename and with cdl file with the same name in the same folder: "Could not open! Remove this file?:
2. started all the same but with proper no-intro names for both files (matched the DB entry): "Could not open..." same
3. tried other file pairs GB+CDL in other directories to run: additionally got message about wrong memory map for current CDL file so I presume because the auto load option in "recent" menu tries to load exactly recent cdl file I worked with manually, not that I run currently...

в общем, даже если я бы удовлетворился повторным открытием последнего выбранного мной сдл файла при работе с текущим ромом, эта опция все равно почему-то не работает в текущем хоке лол. ну т.е. он всегда выдает эту вот "не могу открыть" ошибку и я хз, что он не может открыть и откуда, потому что больше вербозности в сообщении не присутствует.

also note, I'm running files from explorer as associated with emuhawk by double click. in this case auto start for cd logger works properly.
if you start emuhawk first then open any rom with "Open File" option, cd logger does not start automatically even if all autoload checkers are on. so does the same with recent option if you start cd logger manually after that lol it won't autoload.

the good news. "could not open" message were caused by hex viewer by accident where it seems I set the same auto load option lol and it always failed something related to hex editor...
the bad news, when I disabled the hex view auto load option and enabled actual cdl auto load option the emulator is crashes with window:

Crashing is better than total lack of some functionality, because it's usually trivial to reproduce and fix. I'll look into it, but can't guarantee the timeframe. You might want to speed this up by running hawk in visual studio when this happens, and reporting a bit of inner info. May be easier to fix than we think.

ok, https://imgur.com/a/7OPQ2ku see crashes because of path variable cannot be empty for some reason, but it is empty if accessed via autoload, not manual load

as I said, recent-autoload option not for load cdl file for current gb rom by name lol it is for load last recent cdl file used... where there are no used files, the path is empty so it will crash.

so for sure this option is not an option for me, sorry for каламбур лол

it seems even if there is a file in recent list and autoload option is on, the actual data isn't loaded or maybe cleared when the cd logger starting..

I don't understand all this mess. I understand there's a bug I can crash; that's easy and I'll fix it.
I dont know if you mean the recent file autoload, or the settings>autoload.

You should tell me only one problem at a time.

recent file autoload should use the most recent document
settings>autoload should probably only open the tool; but probably with an empty document, unless recent file autoload is active.

the mess is just because I tried to answer the questions by feos lol

the main issue is clear enough in the main topic

the auto start option for CDL just activates the logger with an empty data file.

I request the feature like in fceux. whenever I load the NES file via fceux it fetch the file name I open, and tries to open the .cdl file with the same name for the CDL logger started also automatically...

bizhawk does not work the same. it just opens the CD logger and activates is. no files are loaded...

ok, this definitely work somehow, but this method actually also need to put my head in my ass first before work with any rom lol

see... whenever I open the rom I expected that if there is a CDL file with it (with the same name but cdl extension) it will load automatically when cdl dialog opens and start to log something.

when recent files are used in order to simulate the same functionality there is at least one problem. you need to open/save at least one cdl file manually when open any new rom in order to add it to recent files list and then it will definitely load. but when you switch to next file or any other (yes, sometimes you actually just need to open random files to emulate with hawk lol) or tries to work with two or three files sequentially, you always need to open cdl manually. so the auto load feature goes just useless.

summary: when you open your rom more than one time and work only with this one until finish, it's ok to use recent files. when you open roms once or work with multiple files you still need to manually load every cdl file because the recent list not updated and do not have current cdl file in inside.
