Feature request: useQuery().isSpinning boolean

The docs mention that when disabling/enabling queries, you may want to use isLoading instead of isPending to display spinners. However, this quickly breaks when persisting queryClient, because during restoration, the query returns :

{isLoading: false, isPending: true, isFetching: false, isEnabled: true}

So the user would see no spinner if using isLoading.

I suggest another boolean is added, called isSpinning (or isRunning or whatever seems most appropriate), which is equivalent to isEnabled && isPending.

Any thoughts or alternatives? Can we add this in userland without losing property tracking? Thanks

during restoration, the queryFn isn’t running, so that state is correct.

So the user would see no spinner if using isLoading.

we expose the restoring state with the useIsRestoring() hook, which you can check. You can also defer rendering your app with a <PersistGate> wrapping your app like this:

  return useIsRestoring() ? "loading ..." : children
}
