lerobot2rlds data size problem

Hi, I want ask a question, when I convert lerobot dataset to rlds dataset, the data size increased, from 453M to 1.9G. Is this normal? Why is the rlds format so much larger for the same data?

It's normal.

The reason is that rlds serialize the image format into block bytes, while lerobot compresses images into videos.

This can be compared to storing a [h, w, 3] array in both .npy and .png formats, where the latter takes up much less space.
