(Done) Should I support the Mull browser?

@CodeCubeNeo and @Roterfux asked me to support the Mull browser in FFUpdater.

The developers don't release an APK file on their GitLab (https://gitlab.com/divested-mobile/mull-fenix) or GitHub (https://github.com/Divested-Mobile/mull-fenix).

The only way would be that I download the APK file from F-Droid (query https://f-droid.org/api/v1/packages/us.spotco.fennec_dos; extract suggestedVersionCode -> download https://f-droid.org/repo/us.spotco.fennec_dos_{suggestedVersionCode}.apk)

But what would be the point? You have the F-Droid app installed or not?

You could simply install the Mull browser via F-Droid https://f-droid.org/en/packages/us.spotco.fennec_dos/.

Or have I overlooked something?

I believe the developer has their own repo that provides much more recent updates for Mull. So the F-Droid version is always going to be a few days behind. If you could provide the repo version then that would be really beneficial for some people, but if it's just the F-Droid build, then it may not be worth it.

I think Mull should be added because FFupdater has a better auto-update system than F-droid. F-droid updates are generally a hassle to deal with, at least in my opinion. FFupdater just does it better.

In my opinion adding Mull would be very good since Fdroid version isn't always up to date, you have to use DivestOS repo, and F-droid updater is annoying to use, it requires user interaction. On the other hand FFUpdater delivers updates instantly :)

Are you sure? The only way (except for maybe root permission) F-Droid can update apps is by using the USER_ACTION_NOT_REQUIRED flag. This flag was introduced in SDK 31. But F-Droid Android app only uses SDK 25 (https://github.com/f-droid/fdroidclient/blob/master/app/build.gradle#L33)

Yeah, it needs root! But shouldnt A12 or A13 fix this, allowing 3rd party appstores to silently update apps installed by theyre own? I think i read somewhere about this, being done by google cause of fear of legal anti competitive actions or even cause forced.

Please consider pulling Mull from my repository instead or as a second option, as it receives updates much quicker.
For example 102.1.1 took 12 days to actually reach users via F-Droid.

Additionally I often skip pushing updates of Mull and Fennec F-Droid to F-Droid if they are minor (no security content).

It is on the website via my F-Droid repository.
But looking at how you implemented it using the f-droid.org API to get the version code, it isn't possible to just change the repo.

Available apks can be parsed from https://divestos.org/fdroid/official/index.xml or https://divestos.org/fdroid/official/index-v1.json, but that extra parsing is more unnecessary work on your part as it stands.

So I'll leave it for now and just thank you for adding Mull to FFUpdater and making it more known.

Will be fixed in the next version. If an user installs Mull, the "https://divestos.org/fdroid/official/" repository will be used. Existing users with Mull from the official F-Droid repository will keep getting updates from the official F-Droid repository.
