I'd like to thank the whole Tribler team for the job they are doing. No matter if it's academic, development, or for testing, your input is not only in data sharing, but also in other out of bounds usage. And becaue of current changes in the world, it's huge.
First of all I'd like to comment on some negative information, which were supposedly seen on reddit (I don't know what info and I don't care) - don't take reddit and reddit clones seriously. Don't do it. Never. There are strong indicators, that reddit and similar clones in other countries are used to push a controlling propaganda especially toward younger adults. The source of it is probably in the decline of TV, especially among younger generation, so a substitute had to be found, and there you have it, the reddit.
Another thing - if you think you fight alone - stop. There is much more people than you can image sitting right now and debating, creating and developing how to defend digital freedom. I thought the same, that only I can see the overwhelming attacks on privacy, sovereignty and hardware ownership. There are hundreds of thousands of those who understand the situation, which is sadly still not enough, we win small battles like the exclusion of open source systems from age attestation in california, protection of bitcoin mining and ownership and many others. But those are just battles, a war was never won by winning single battles.
The biggest threat is still there, and it's called a hardware attestation. This includes TPM CA attestation, hardware enclaves and even passkeys. But this is not a part of what I want to say, I just wanted to mention it.
The question which I wanted to answer is - would I support Tribler existence under "normal circumstances" - this is a tough question, because I didn't know that tribler existed in the past. With a hesitation, I probably... would, but I'm looking at it from the current perspective which is causing a distortion in reality.
What I'm sure of - I do support Tribler, and it's idea, and all ideas which are similar to it, under current pressure of "fight without rules" of some governments.
Even if, what you do, seems small or "normal" to you (the team) - believe me - the whole world, whole resistance is made of such "unimportant things". Read Free Software Foundation articles - this is the most sane information which can exist on the internet about digital freedom today. There are many examples where small ideas, turned big.
So no - you are not just some project - you are a part of a very very big, very relevant machine, responsible for keeping very important values from being destroyed.
I also wanted to share a small technical thing:
What I discovered, is that Tribler is a great tool, to mask udp nat-punched traffic. Because Tribler uses the same port range, assigned by an operating system, as other apps which use nat-punching, and also sends nat-punch-looking-series of packets - therefore it adds a good amount of a very diversified ip udp traffic, even if it runs empty just as a relay. So yes - tribler just got another, unforeseen use!
