How to get a new Product on Cumulus Process/Information Needed?

I am hoping to learn more about what steps/information is needed for getting a new products pushed to cumulus. The product is not yet live, but we can connect someone to the model developers. The product is generally speaking a binational product (US/CA) for precipitation observations.

1. What format does the data need to be in to get "pushed" to CUMULUS?
2. What information does the CUMULUS need about the product (there is no public repo)?
3. Generally speaking in layman's terms - what is the behind the scenes terms of how the data is transferred from RFCs/origin sites to CUMULUS?
4. Any other information you think is good for a new product to have to make it as seamless as possible to work with cumulus is welcome,
