v0.5.0 — wake retries until the host is confirmed awake

Choose a tag to compare

@Vahn84 Vahn84 released this 09 Jul 15:00

Changed

  • Wake is now closed-loop. Broadcast WOL delivery to a sleeping wired NIC through a client-isolating router turned out to be stochastic — byte-identical packets sometimes wake the host, sometimes vanish (verified with packet captures). Instead of firing a blind burst, the plugin now sends a volley, listens on a raw socket for the host to announce itself (gratuitous ARP/DHCP broadcast on resume), and retries every 3 s for up to 45 s.
  • Honest feedback. The Test button and resume toast now report the real outcome: confirmed awake in N s or no response from host — never a blind "sent".
  • Resume robustness. Wake no longer aborts if the first sends fail while the Deck's Wi-Fi is still reassociating after resume — it keeps retrying through the window.

Notes

  • sol.json (attached, unchanged from v0.4.2) is still the recommended host-side config for sleep-on-lan.
  • On non-root/non-Linux environments the plugin falls back to the previous fire-and-forget burst.

v0.4.2 — fix wake-then-resleep (buffered sleep packets)

@Vahn84 Vahn84 released this 09 Jul 13:42

Fixed

  • PC no longer goes straight back to sleep after waking. The plugin used to send the reversed-MAC sleep packet 3× for redundancy; the extra packets were buffered through the suspend transition and replayed by sleep-on-lan on resume, immediately re-sleeping the host regardless of wake source (WOL, controller, mouse). Sleep is now sent exactly once — the host NIC is awake at that point, so redundancy isn't needed. See SR-G/sleep-on-lan#22.

Changed

  • Wake burst stretched: 8 packets over ~5 s (was 3 over 0.6 s). Broadcast delivery to a sleeping wired NIC through a client-isolating router is flaky; the longer window makes wake reliable.

Recommended host-side hardening

Download the attached sol.json and drop it next to sol.exe on the host PC (then restart the SleepOnLAN scheduled task or reboot). It enables AvoidDualUDPSending, so duplicate sleep packets can never re-sleep the PC, whatever the sender does.

Wake now broadcasts to the /24 directed address too. On routers that isolate wireless from wired clients and only flood the directed subnet broadcast (e.g. 192.168.0.255) across the boundary — not global 255.255.255.255 — WOL wake previously never reached the sleeping wired host. Wake and sleep now share the same broadcast logic, hitting the global, configured, and directed-/24 broadcasts on UDP 9 and 7.

UDP sleep now uses broadcast — fixes hosts behind routers that isolate wireless from wired clients.

On such routers, unicast from a wireless Deck to a wired host is dropped, so the HTTP sleep and the old unicast UDP sleep never arrived — but layer-2 broadcast still floods across. UDP sleep now sends the reversed-MAC magic packet to the /24 directed broadcast and the global broadcast on UDP 9 and 7, the same envelope WOL wake already uses.

If your host is on Wi-Fi or your router doesn't isolate clients, HTTP mode still works and gives you delivery confirmation; switch to UDP mode only if HTTP times out.

First public release.

HostSleep sleeps your Steam Remote Play host PC when the Deck suspends and wakes it (Wake-on-LAN) when the Deck resumes — without closing the running game.

  • Sleep-on-suspend / wake-on-resume toggles
  • "Only when using Remote Play" gating (detects the Deck's streaming_client process; wake only fires if the plugin slept the host)
  • Sleep transport: HTTP (sleep-on-lan REST, default) or reversed-MAC UDP packet
  • Manual Sleep host now / Wake host now test buttons
  • Debug mode: in-panel timestamped event log (every hook fire, gating decision, packet/request sent, error) + debug toasts on resume

Install: download HostSleep.zip on the Deck → Decky → Settings → Developer → Install plugin from ZIP.
Host setup: run sleep-on-lan on the Windows PC (defaults work). See the README for details.
