XIPU AI Bridge v0.5.1
Changes
- Install the Linux executable under
~/.local/opt/xipu-ai-bridgeand store settings and the local API key separately under$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/xipu-ai-bridge(or~/.config/xipu-ai-bridge). - Add a Linux
--prefixoption to choose the parent directory for the executable. Use the same prefix when upgrading or uninstalling.
Upgrading on Linux
Unregister the existing host using the old executable before installing this version. Settings and the API key in the old XIPU AI Bridge directory are not migrated. Configure the new installation and update clients to use its API key. See the installation guide.
Install
Download the native archive for your operating system and CPU and xipu-bridge-extension.zip, extract them, and follow INSTALL.md. Prebuilt binaries are not Developer ID or Authenticode signed, or Apple notarized; your OS may warn or block execution.
XIPU AI Bridge v0.5.0
Changes
- Support the current XIPU AI
/chatfrontend alongside/v3/chat, with setup guidance pointing to/chat. - Accept PDF and UTF-8 text documents through Responses
input_fileand Chat Completionsfileparts. Preserve mixed attachment order and apply frontend limits: up to ten attachments on/chat, or one image on/v3/chat. - Report failed attachments by position and filename, with machine-readable request locations, failure stages, and upstream error details.
- Improve Linux native-host registration for Chromium, Brave, and custom configuration directories.
- Clarify setup, settings, installation instructions, API compatibility limits, and debugging options.
Install or upgrade
Download both the native archive for your operating system and CPU and xipu-bridge-extension.zip. Extract both and follow the included INSTALL.md. In Chrome, enable Developer mode at chrome://extensions, choose Load unpacked, and select the extracted extension folder.
For upgrades, quit the browser before running the native installer. Replace the files in the existing unpacked extension folder, reopen the browser, reload the extension, and refresh the signed-in XIPU AI tab. Existing host settings and the local API key are preserved.
Prebuilt binaries are not Developer ID or Authenticode signed, or Apple notarized; the operating system may warn or block execution.
Compatibility
Document uploads require /chat. Upstream upload availability and document recognition vary; the attachment-count limit does not guarantee successful generation with every combination of files. Tool calls and structured output use prompt-based compatibility and local validation. Client token limits do not cap generation or charges, and per-request token usage remains unavailable.
See the reference and verification notes for supported behavior and platform testing limits.
XIPU AI Bridge v0.4.1-rc.1
Linux native-host compatibility candidate
This prerelease improves Native Messaging registration on Linux.
- Add Brave stable registration with
--browser brave. - Honor
CHROME_CONFIG_HOMEandCHROME_USER_DATA_DIRfor Chrome and Chromium, with the user data directory taking precedence. - Add
--native-host-diron Linux and macOS for custom browser registration directories. - Print the registered manifest path to simplify installation checks.
- Preserve existing configuration and refuse to overwrite managed symlinks.
Install on Linux
Download the Linux archive for your CPU (amd64 for x86-64, arm64 for AArch64), extract it, and open a terminal in the extracted directory. Choose the command for your browser:
bash install.sh --browser chromium
# Or, for Brave:
bash install.sh --browser braveAdd --dry-run to inspect paths before installation. For a custom browser directory, see the Linux installation reference.
To install the extension, extract xipu-bridge-extension.zip, enable Developer mode at chrome://extensions, select Load unpacked, and choose the extracted folder.
Validation and limitations
Automated checks cover browser paths, environment precedence, custom-directory installation and removal, configuration preservation, archive contents, and checksums. Live NixOS browser integration remains unverified; sandboxed browser packages may require separate native-host integration.
Native binaries are not code-signed or notarized. Verify downloads against SHA256SUMS. Version v0.4.0 remains the latest stable release.
XIPU AI Bridge v0.4.0
What's new
- Added two independent, opt-in debugging settings, both disabled by default.
- Local request capture saves the latest API request, derived school payload, and diagnostic events in the native app's configuration directory. Authentication headers are excluded. Captures can contain prompts, responses, and images; treat them as sensitive. Disabling capture does not delete the saved file.
- Optional webpage send mode uses the legacy
/v3/chatpage's send flow and displays responses live. It requires the dedicated conversation to be open with existing messages, the requested model selected, Context Count set to 0, and an empty composer. Unsupported or changed page state stops the request without automatic retry. School-side history retention remains outside the bridge's control. - School errors now identify whether they occurred during image upload or response generation.
Install or upgrade
Download the archive for your operating system and CPU, extract it, and follow INSTALL.md. Update both the native app and extension. Extract xipu-bridge-extension.zip, enable Developer mode in Chrome's extension manager, and load the extracted directory. For an existing installation, replace its extension files, reload the extension, and refresh the signed-in XIPU AI tab.
Native binaries are not Developer ID signed, Apple notarized, or Windows Authenticode signed. See the README for installation and platform validation limits. Checksums are provided in SHA256SUMS.
XIPU AI Bridge v0.3.2
Settings now have clearer navigation, accessible key controls, and more informative feedback.
- Add a dedicated Appearance section with theme changes saved immediately, including while offline.
- Move Setup to the bottom of the settings navigation, with an indicator that it opens in a new tab.
- Use coss-ui alert layouts for success, information, warning, and error messages.
- Replace API-key text actions with labeled show/hide and copy icons.
- Dismiss the Settings saved alert after 10 seconds without dismissing newer messages.
- Improve navigation on narrow screens and preserve unsaved changes when switching sections.
Download the archive for your operating system and CPU, plus xipu-bridge-extension.zip. Extract both and follow INSTALL.md. Existing users can replace the extracted extension files, reload the extension, and reopen Settings. No native-host behavior changes are included in this release.
Native binaries are not Developer ID signed, Apple notarized, or Windows Authenticode signed. See the README for installation and platform validation limits.

XIPU AI Bridge v0.3.1
Changes
- Add a three-second pause before configuring a newly created bridge conversation, reducing back-to-back writes to the school session endpoint.
- Apply the same pause when explicitly resuming configuration. Local-only saves remain immediate.
- Show the waiting state in Setup and allow Stop waiting to cancel the timer while preserving the created conversation.
- Keep rejected requests explicit: configuration failures are not retried automatically, and resuming setup does not create another conversation.
Update
Replace the extracted extension files with xipu-bridge-extension.zip, reload the extension in Chrome, and refresh the signed-in XIPU AI tab. The v0.3.0 native app remains compatible; no native reinstall is required for this patch.
New installations should download the native package for their operating system and CPU alongside the extension ZIP and follow INSTALL.md. Native binaries are unsigned and not notarized.
The pause reduces request bursts but cannot guarantee acceptance under the school's rate limits. Automated coverage includes timer cancellation, explicit resume, waiting-state UI, and the interval between creation and configuration in native integration tests.

XIPU AI Bridge v0.3.0
What's new
- Add a first-run setup guide that creates and verifies a dedicated XIPU AI conversation without generating a response.
- Recover interrupted setup with read-only checks, cancellation, and manual configuration through Settings. Uncertain creation attempts are not automatically repeated.
- Unify branding across the popup, setup guide, and settings.
- Accept clean school stream completion without requiring an optional
[DONE]marker, while retaining errors for incomplete frames and failed reads. - Return HTTP 400 with
unsupported_image_modelwhen a request contains images but the selected model does not advertise image support. - Add Text-only image history, disabled by default. When enabled, earlier answered images are replaced with an unavailable marker while existing text descriptions are retained. New images still require image support.
Install or update
Download the native archive for your operating system and CPU, plus xipu-bridge-extension.zip. Extract both and follow the included INSTALL.md.
Existing installations should rerun the native installer, replace the extension files, reload the extension in Chrome, and refresh the signed-in XIPU AI tab. Existing native settings and API credentials are preserved. Enable Settings → General → Text-only image history only if you want that behavior.
Verification and limits
Automated checks run on macOS, Linux, and Windows, including synthetic browser/native integration and package validation. Live service behavior and browser integration on every platform require separate verification. Native binaries are unsigned and not notarized. Omitted images cannot be inspected by the model; only retained descriptions remain available.

XIPU AI Bridge v0.2.0
Automatic model selection
Choose an available model in your API client. The bridge now updates the dedicated school conversation when the requested model changes, preserves its other settings, and verifies the saved model and conversation identity before generating a response.
- Works with Chat Completions and Responses, including streaming.
- Requests using the current model do not save the conversation again.
- Unknown models, failed updates, and failed verification stop before generation. Updates are not retried automatically.
- School failures identify the operation and report available error messages or numeric codes.
- Context Count must remain 0. Reserve the dedicated conversation for bridge use and avoid editing it while a request is active.
Model changes persist, including when a later step fails or is cancelled. The bridge does not create or delete conversations.
Upgrade
Download and extract xipu-bridge-extension.zip, replace the existing extension files, reload the extension in Chrome's extension manager, and refresh the signed-in XIPU AI tab. The model-switching update requires the refreshed extension scripts.
Native packages for macOS, Windows, and Linux are also included. Close the browser before running the native installer; saved settings and the local API key are preserved.
Native executables are not Developer ID signed, Apple notarized, or Windows Authenticode signed. Token-limit fields remain compatibility options and do not cap generation or charges; per-request token usage remains unavailable.
XIPU AI Bridge v0.1.1
Changes
- Accept
max_tokensandmax_completion_tokensfor Chat Completions andmax_output_tokensfor Responses. Values are validated and disclosed throughX-XIPU-Ignored-Parameters. - Accept requested streaming usage without rejecting the completion. Unknown usage is returned as
null, withX-XIPU-Usage: unavailable; no token counts are estimated. - Expose compatibility headers to browser clients through CORS.
- Simplify documentation and expand protocol regression coverage.
Token-limit fields do not cap generation length, school points, or charges. Clients must tolerate unavailable usage. The Anthropic Messages API is not supported.
Install or upgrade
Download the native archive for your operating system and CPU, and xipu-bridge-extension.zip. Extract both archives and follow INSTALL.md in the native package.
For an upgrade, close the browser before running the native installer. Settings and the local API key are preserved. Replace the extracted extension files and reload the unpacked extension in Chrome's extension manager.
Native executables are not Developer ID signed, Apple notarized, or Windows Authenticode signed. The signed Git commit and tag do not establish executable trust.
XIPU AI Bridge v0.1.0
