Hypervisaur 0.4.0
What's new
- Keep virtual machines running in the background. When you close a running virtual machine's window, choose Keep Running to leave it running without its window, or choose Guest › Run in Background (⇧⌘W). The library shows it as running in the background; click it to open its window again, or use its menu in the library to save it, shut it down or keep it awake. You can make keeping it running what closing a window always does in Settings › General.
- Prevent sleep. Keeping a virtual machine running can keep the Mac from going to sleep, and has the Hypervisaur agent keep the virtual machine awake too: with
caffeinatein macOS,systemd-inhibitin Linux andSetThreadExecutionStatein Windows. The Mac's display can still turn off. Virtual machines that are kept awake show a cup in the library. - Live pictures in the library. While the library is on screen, each running virtual machine shows a lightly blurred picture of its screen with its system's icon, updated every 30 seconds.
- Windows virtual machines are always up to date.
- macOS and Linux virtual machines are pictured from their window, once Hypervisaur is allowed to record the screen, so their picture stays as it was while their window is closed.
- Save State for Windows. Closing or quitting can now save a Windows virtual machine's state, as it already did for macOS, and resuming continues exactly where Windows left off. Windows' sound device can't be saved, so it's disconnected while the state is saved and connected again when Windows resumes. Saving isn't available while Windows Setup is running.
- More choices when closing. Virtual machines that can't be saved, such as Linux ones, now get the same choices as the others when closing them, without saving.
Things to know
- A saved Windows state belongs to the version of QEMU that saved it. It's usually fine after QEMU is updated with Homebrew, but if it can't be resumed, Hypervisaur offers to discard it, and Windows starts up as usual.
Updating from 0.3.0
- Open the installer package to replace Hypervisaur 0.3.0. Your virtual machines stay as they are.
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later
- For Windows: Homebrew, the Windows 11 ARM64 disc image and your own Windows license
