Scanr 0.5

Pages are turned the right way up, and scans are harder to lose.

• Reading direction: a sheet fed upside down or sideways is turned the right way up, judged by its text. Pages without text, such as photos, stay as they came.
• Settings, new tab „Info“: about Scanr (version, copyright, licence), links to help, privacy policy, source code and support, and „Nach Update suchen“ (check for updates), which opens the latest release on GitHub in your browser. Scanr itself still has no network code.
• The last result stays in the menu below the status, so you see it even with notifications switched off.

Fixes from an audit:

• If text recognition fails on a page, the page goes into the PDF without a text layer and the message says so. Before, the whole batch was lost.
• An output folder Scanr cannot write to is caught before the sheets are fed, not after the whole batch.
• A PDF that could not be written completely (for example a full disk) is reported instead of being announced as saved.
• Long receipts at a steep angle are cropped correctly again.
• Folders on network drives with decomposed umlauts are counted correctly when numbering files.
• A profile name can no longer be left empty, and is limited to 40 characters.
• VoiceOver labels for the profile buttons; the „open at login“ switch stays on while macOS waits for approval.

Scanr 0.4

Scans can now go to a folder of your choice.

• Settings, tab „Allgemein“, has a new row „Ablage“ (output folder) with a menu: the Desktop or „Anderer Ordner …“ to pick any folder. The Desktop stays the default.
• When you change the folder, Scanr checks right away that it may write there, so macOS asks for access at that moment and not at the first scan. A folder Scanr cannot write to is rejected with a message.
• If the chosen folder is missing at scan time (deleted, renamed, drive not connected), Scanr reports „Ablage nicht gefunden“ and saves nothing anywhere else.

Help and support are now reachable from inside the app.

• The menu has a new item „Hilfe“ that opens the online help.
• Settings, tab „Allgemein“, has a new section „Hilfe & Info“ with the help, the privacy policy, the source code on GitHub, the support address and the version.

Scanr 0.2

Receipts and slips fed in at an angle are now handled.

• Pages fed in skewed by up to 30 degrees are straightened and cropped to the paper. Before, the limit was 15 degrees; anything beyond stayed uncropped, and its blank back side was kept.
• Scans now include the scanner's overscan margin. Without it the iX500 cut off the corners of a skewed sheet, so the first or last line of a receipt could be missing.
• The menu bar icon appears right away at launch, even while macOS is still asking for access to the Desktop.

Scanr is a menu bar app for the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500 over USB. Press the scan button on the device and a searchable PDF lands on your Desktop. No vendor driver, no network code, no cloud.
