#Characters and Gameplay

##Ms. Pac-Man:

Ms. Pac-Man has the same rounded appearance as the previous male Pac-Man, but now she is showed wearing a red hair bow, red lipstick, black eyeshadow and a beauty mark under her mouth. She must collect every pellet (normal or power ones) while avoiding the ghosts that try to haunt her.

Her speed increases when she isn’t eating, just like the previous Pac-Man games did. She can also turn corners faster than ghosts can do, so the player can take advantage of that. Ms. Pac-Man receives an extra life at 10,000 points by default, even though the setting can be modified to 15,000 points, 20,000 points or it can even be disabled altogether.

##Ghosts:

Pac-Man, the ghosts’ American names are Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde (descended from the original Japanese characters Fickle, Chaser, Ambusher, and Stupid). For Ms. Pac-Man, Midway changed the name of the orange, slowest ghost from Clyde to Sue, but left it at the rear of the pack.

###Blinky:

Blinky, also named Shadow, is a ghost that follows Ms. Pac-Man way more often than the others. Whenever he is not in one of his random phases he will try to go on the shortest path between him and the main character, he is also the one ahead of the group when several ghosts are after Ms. Pac-man.

As in the original Pac-Man arcade game, his home corner is the top-right when he enters the scatter mode.

###Pinky:

Pinky is also named Speedy and it’s the ghost that will try to go in the opposite direction of Ms. Pac-Man in order to ambush her. As the other ghosts, during the scatter phase his chase will stop briefly and he will head to his home corner at the top-left part of the maze.

The ghost gender in the original arcade was unspecified until later in 1999 Namco created the Pac-Man World series and declared that Pinky was a female.

###Inky:

Inky is the ghost that will most likely avoid a head on collision with Ms. Pac-Man, though this will not happen all times. When meeting him at opposites of a tunnel he will chase her down. Like in the original Pac-Man game his home corner is located in the bottom-right of the maze, where he heads during the scatter phases.

###Sue:

Sue is the ghost that has replaced Clyde from the original Pac-Man game, and it’s declared to be a female. She is the most random ghost out of the four and will often ignore Ms. Pac-man and wander around in the maze. Her home corner is located at the bottom-left of the maze.

###Scared ghosts:

The ghosts will get scared every time Ms. Pac-Man eats one of the four power pellets that stand at the corners of the maze. During a short amount of time the ghosts will turn blue and have a conflicted expression as they run away from Ms. Pac-Man and head to the place where they begin the game at the center of the screen. When the level is high enough the ghosts’ time of being scared will reduce until they eventually no longer turn blue (but they will still run away).

While they are running it is possible to eat them, and the points given by that action increase if several ghosts are eaten consecutively. The punctuations go from 200, 400, 800 to 1600 points (if eaten all four).

They start to flash between blue and white colors when the time of the power pellets is about to end. After that amount of time the ghosts will proceed to chase the main character down.

##Controls:

Back when the arcade game was on the original machines that run the game the players directed Ms. Pac-Man actions using a 4-way Joystick holding it in the way the character needed to move. There was also the possibility of playing the game for 1 or 2 players and its’ respective buttons.

In order to play this game nowadays the Directional Arrows of the keyboard are the ones that direct Ms. Pac-Man. Moreover, at the menu screen at the introduction, the ghosts and Ms. Pac-man are shown one by one as their names appear on the screen; to skip that part the numbers 5 or 6 can be pushed followed by number 1 in order to skip that part and get to start the game. The letter ‘P’ allows the player to pause (or unpause) the game at any time while playing.
