Hi @wasabii, @mloskot - thanks for kicking this off, and for all the discussion in the earlier thread that got this rolling 😎

We (the Seq team) don't have a huge amount to contribute at this stage, but wanted to let you know we're happy to answer questions and try to unblock things wherever we can - please @ me anytime.

The team's aware of how challenging it can be to deploy Seq in a fully-Kubernetes-native way. Unfortunately, trying to solve this ourselves right now would leave us spread too thinly, so it's wonderful to have the operator growing out there as a community project. (Meanwhile we're pushing ahead with native metrics support, so hopefully investing our time in the things we're uniquely positioned to do...)

I need to generate first run hashes. I gave it a go by just copying the PasswordHash code in the CLI, and Base64ing the results. Am I missing something do you think?

It's seqsvr config hash a different CLI indeed.

So I threw an implementation together. Still not quite working though. Code is pushed though.

So, for Salt, I needed it to be deterministic based on something. So I'm taking the instance namespace and name, appending them with /, and hashing it. First 16 bytes becomes salt. So it's the same salt for each named instance. Which I think is fine.

Ya know, this is basically never going to work PERFECTLY.... because Kubernetes is more than welcome to start the container, then immediately shut it down and move it before we have a chance to login using the firstRun values.

We need some better option here.

But I got it to work.
