MacMode v1.2.10

Choose a tag to compare

@andruu andruu released this 18 Sep 02:05

What's New

  • Start on Login could silently vanish — Choosing Start on Login (Admin) from a non-elevated MacMode removed the existing Run-key registration before trying to create the elevated Task Scheduler task, which Windows refuses from a normal process. The menu item was then ticked and startOnLogin: true saved anyway, so nothing was registered and MacMode did not start at the next login. Both enable paths now register first and only then remove the other mode; failures are reported and leave the previous registration intact.
  • Honest startup menu — The Start on Login / Start on Login (Admin) checks and the saved setting now reflect what is actually registered. From a non-elevated MacMode, the Admin item explains that it needs Restart as Admin first instead of failing.
  • Self-repair at launch — If startOnLogin is on but no Run key or logon task exists, MacMode re-registers in the mode matching its own elevation (Run key when normal, Task Scheduler when elevated), logs it, and shows a notification. Existing installs affected by the bug fix themselves on first launch of this version.
  • Docs — README documents both startup modes and the elevation requirement.

Upgrading

Replace MacMode.App.exe; your settings.json and profiles are untouched. Launch it once and it will restore your Start on Login registration if it was lost.

Install

Extract the zip and run MacMode.App.exe. Self-contained build; no separate .NET runtime install required.

@andruu andruu released this 18 Sep 00:59

What's New

  • Chord shortcuts no longer open the app menu — Actions with no modifier of their own (Cmd+Left → Home, Cmd+Right → End, Cmd+Backspace → Delete in Explorer) sent a bare Alt release, which Win32 and Electron/Chromium apps treat as "focus the menu bar". The action key then landed in the menu instead of the editor — most visibly in Claude Desktop, where Cmd+Left opened the app menu. The engine now always presses a key before releasing Alt, using the action's own modifier when it has one and a masking Ctrl press otherwise (the same technique Cmd+Q and Cmd+already used).Cmd+Shift+Left/Right` are covered too.
  • Raycast profile — New shipped profiles/raycast.json maps Cmd+Q to Escape while Raycast's launcher is in front. Previously the default close-window action posted WM_CLOSE to the launcher; Raycast destroys that window rather than hiding it, so the process kept running and its hotkey (e.g. the Copilot key) kept firing with nothing left to show until Raycast was restarted. Every other app keeps the normal close-window behavior.
  • Regression tests — New scenarios for Alt+Left, Alt+Shift+Left, and the Raycast profile, in both physical and Synergy-style injected form (47 total).
  • Docs — README gains a Raycast section, an updated description of the Alt-cancel batch, and a note in the Synergy section that the injected-input changes do not affect Raycast's Copilot-key hotkey.

v1.2.8 (the Raycast profile alone) was tagged but not released; this release supersedes it.

Upgrading

Replace MacMode.App.exe; your settings.json and edited profiles are untouched. If you upgrade by swapping only the exe, also copy profiles/raycast.json from the zip into your profiles folder (or use Edit Profiles… → Reset on it) — the running app picks it up without a restart.

Install

Extract the zip and run MacMode.App.exe. Self-contained build; no separate .NET runtime install required.

@andruu andruu released this 17 Sep 14:49

What's New

  • Synergy input — Incoming injected keyboard and mouse events are remapped using the normal profiles. MacMode only ignores its own generated input, so shortcuts still work when Windows is the receiver.
  • Synergy pause — Remapping automatically pauses while Synergy's capture or settings window is foreground, then resumes. Set suspendForSynergy to false to opt out.
  • Raycast on injected Win key — Optional raycastOnInjectedWindowsTap opens the running Raycast app for a standalone injected Windows-key tap. Physical Win key bindings are unchanged.
  • Idle timers for remote input — Optional refreshIdleTimersForRemoteInput refreshes Windows display and system idle timers when injected keyboard or mouse activity arrives.
  • Shared-display hotkeys — Ctrl+Alt+1 and Ctrl+Alt+2 pass through, including immediately after a remapped shortcut while Alt is still held.
  • Regression tests — Isolated keyboard checks live in tests/MacMode.RegressionTests.

Install

Extract the zip and run MacMode.App.exe. Self-contained build; no separate .NET runtime install required.
