What's New
- Start on Login could silently vanish — Choosing Start on Login (Admin) from a non-elevated MacMode removed the existing Run-key registration before trying to create the elevated Task Scheduler task, which Windows refuses from a normal process. The menu item was then ticked and
startOnLogin: truesaved anyway, so nothing was registered and MacMode did not start at the next login. Both enable paths now register first and only then remove the other mode; failures are reported and leave the previous registration intact. - Honest startup menu — The Start on Login / Start on Login (Admin) checks and the saved setting now reflect what is actually registered. From a non-elevated MacMode, the Admin item explains that it needs Restart as Admin first instead of failing.
- Self-repair at launch — If
startOnLoginis on but no Run key or logon task exists, MacMode re-registers in the mode matching its own elevation (Run key when normal, Task Scheduler when elevated), logs it, and shows a notification. Existing installs affected by the bug fix themselves on first launch of this version. - Docs — README documents both startup modes and the elevation requirement.
Upgrading
Replace MacMode.App.exe; your settings.json and profiles are untouched. Launch it once and it will restore your Start on Login registration if it was lost.
Install
Extract the zip and run MacMode.App.exe. Self-contained build; no separate .NET runtime install required.
