Datafusion-cli installation problem

Hi,

I have been trying to get datafusion-cli installed via cargo install datafusion-cli on PowerShell but kept getting the error:
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:13 (project): Failed to run MSBuild command to get the value of VCTargetsPath

Would like to check the requirements to get it installed or if anyone could point out what could have gone wrong.

OS: Windows 11 Enterprise 10.0.22631 Build 22631 (x64-based)
Rust: v1.90.0
MS Visual Studio Build Tools: 2022 (v17.5.2) - everything under Desktop development with C++ is checked
Kitware CMake: v3.29.9

For your info: I can work on my Rust project just fine, so I presume my MS Visual Studio Build Tools are installed correctly.

I think that this issue is coming from Rust installation ( I had the same issue)

As part of Rust install , automatically try to install "Visual Build Tools" and if you are not Laptop Admin, will fail and you will have this error on runtime

This can help, but you will need admin,
The best is allow Rust installer, install these dependences

Thanks for the tip! Let me try that out in a bit.

Just curious, did you also add path/to/bin/CMake.exe to Path? Because I did that, otherwise it will trigger error missing dependency -cmake. Not sure if this could be a contributing factor to the VCTargetsPath error..

Double checked my MS Build Tools 2022, all relevant tools have been installed with the path manually added just now - still, build failed.

This is the full long log of error output. I guess it goes beyond just Rust installation problem.. should have shared this earlier. I'm no expert in this. But I can see This program is blocked by group policy. Is it the MSBuild.exe affected?

Just found this article spelling out the dependencies. Who would have known Netwide Assembler (NASM) is required alongside CMake...
Gotta give it a try during weekend

Very unfortunate that NASM is prohibited from installing in my Windows work machine.

Is there any workaround I can navigate through the installation process without touching NASM?
