Royale presentation track

Proposal for a track of five sessions:

  1. Hello, Royale!

    • History: from Adobe Flex to Apache Royale
    • Why Royale?
      • Strength of strongly typed language, components for developers
      • Coolio stuff like strands and beads
      • Smooth integration with JS, including being able to make use of the universe of JS libraries
      • Vast resource of existing Flex apps designed to work with Flash, now orphaned
    • What Royale 1.0 will offer
  2. From an empty file to a running Royale app

    • The command-line hello world
    • Getting there with an IDE (Moonshine)
    • From first run to making it pretty
  3. Moving an app from Flex to Royale - (who can speak, or help to structure this, from experience?)

    • why do it?
    • preparation steps
    • setting up a project
    • emulation
    • work-arounds
    • actual examples
  4. Deploying your Royale app -

    • Examples on browser, desktop, mobile device, all from the same code base.
    • Detailed look at the MVC to-do list app
  5. Behind the scenes at Tour de Jewel - (presentation and expertise from Carlos Rovira)

How to get there

IF we decide this is something we (or a subgroup) want to do...

From the ApacheCon staff:

The CFP has been reopened for just 2 weeks - July 13 is the end date. As track chairs, you can draw from the CFP, or you can invite your track participants. But, either way, we need you to deliver me a schedule on or before July 17 so that we can start promoting this event, and make it awesome for the MORE THAN 500 PEOPLE who have already registered!!

Our tasks, then:

  • Choose a track (one or a set of presentations)
  • Select a coordinator - Andrew Wetmore
  • Inform the ApacheCon organizers - done
  • Assemble the topics
  • Submit the CFP for each presentation in the track
  • Assign tasks
  • Prepare the assets
  • Select the presenters
  • Prepare the speaking script(s)
  • Prepare downloadable resources
  • REHEARSE
  • Promote our track to the world
  • Non-presenters engage in feedback during presentations
  • Harvest results for website and Royale in a Week
