Dirwise 1.6.0

Finder-Win is now Dirwise. Same app, new name — the previous one pointed to a third-party product. Your settings, Quick access, tags and tabs are kept.

Important

Upgrading from Finder-Win 1.5.x: just run Dirwise_1.6.0_x64-setup.exe. It silently removes the old Finder-Win installation first (no second copy side by side, the Start menu and desktop shortcuts are replaced) and keeps your settings. If you had Finder-Win pinned to the taskbar, pin Dirwise again.

✨ New

  • Windows 11 window buttons – Minimize, Maximize / Restore and Close on the right, with Snap Layouts when you hover Maximize; the app icon and name on the left.
  • Blurred transparency (Acrylic) – More → Appearance → Transparency: Off / Blurred, in three strengths (now much more see-through). Native Windows 11 Acrylic on Windows 11 22H2 and later with Transparency effects on; text keeps WCAG AA contrast over light, dark and colourful wallpapers. When the window loses focus it turns solid, like other Windows windows.
  • File extensions like File Explorer – shortcuts (.lnk, .url) never show one, other files follow Windows’ “Hide extensions for known file types”, or choose Always / Never in More → View → File Extensions (also in the command palette). Renaming (F2) keeps a hidden extension.
  • More → View – Hidden Files (Ctrl+Shift+.) and File Extensions, like in File Explorer.
  • Sidebar – Quick access (pinned folders) / This PC / Cloud / Drives (with the Recycle Bin) / Recent / Tags, headings in normal case; Pin to Quick Access in the context menu.
  • Icons view – the selection highlights the whole tile, like in Windows 11.
  • New amber folder icon in the style of Windows 11.
  • Status bar – “1 of 52 selected · 120.7 GB free”.
  • Toolbar fits narrow windows – the search field gets narrower, then turns into a search icon that expands on click.
  • Quick Look is now Preview (Space).
