HTML Option

Hello! I have a suggestion for a new option to use alongside text, math, regex etc. for html content. In HTML content, math does not render without ‘”’, however the plugin does not support a separate HTML option to allow for the math shortcuts to be used without allowing them to be used in the text format which could cause false triggers.

EDIT: <span class=”math display></span> is what is meant to show in the example.

Could you elaborate a bit more with some example(s)?

And math doesn't work at all in obsidian?
At least this <p>"$1$"</p> didn't render for me as math so I am not quite sure what you mean.

Sorry, it seems my example did not show correctly.

So if I was to write <p>$$2+3=5$$</p> as such in Obsidian then it would render in both edit and read mode as $$2+3=5$$. If I was to write <span class="math display">2+3=5</span> then in read mode it will render properly as math. The issue is that these HTML parts are considered in text mode regardless by the plugin, therefore all snippets used for math mode will not work for when I need to quickly type math in HTML, so I was wondering if an additional option could be created to detect HTML being written and therefore math can be typed quicker in these situations, especially when custom HTML callouts are used.

no? I don't see why this should be another option and not the default behaviour. Don't want configuration/feature creep when it's not needed.

Html could be another environment, but that is something separate.

And if there is some other custom class stuff, then that could also be an option but that's what you're describing right?

You mean like another option alongside n for inline and M for display math, like h for html math.

From the pandoc documentation(https://pandoc.org/demo/example33/3.6-math-rendering-in-html.html) it seems only the class math needs to be present.

I'll look at it later, but do you know any way to escape the math inside the html? (Would be a lot easier if you couldn't, makes parsing easier)

Also I recently became a maintainer and there are still a few prs open, so I want to give them time to respond before I start merging major changes ( about a month). Otherwise they would have to resolve a lot of merge conflicts.

Yes, I do mean another option alongside n etc.

The rendering's fine it's just having a separate HTML math option might be helpful, as currently HTML is covered under text mode. But I understand if it's just feature creep.

Yay! If there is, then someone will probably open a bug report.
It also wouldn't really make sense to close the math env without closing the tag, but standards are weird, so had to ask.

In your example, why does your span have the class display. I didn't see any difference in rendering in obsidian. Do you have your own css styles setup or is this something obsidian doesn't support, but is an official "extension" of markdown.
(text that I tested it with \frac{\mathrm{d}}{\mathrm{d}x}\int_a^x f(t)\,\mathrm{d}t=f(x) which does have a difference if you put \displaystyle in front)

Is there a specific reason why you want another flag for html only and not merge it into display math?
Looking at the code I already have to deal with html differently than display or inline math so adding another option for the user isn't that much, but I couldn't think of any different snippets that you would want to use in html that shouldn't work in display math or the other way around.

Thanks for the proof of concept.

My example had class="math display" only because that's how I learnt to do it.

As for the separate option, wasn't sure how to word it but if it's easier to merge with the pre-existing display math then yeah.
