Happy New Year 2026 — and happy new engine release: RC 2025.06.15!

A bunch of people are (very reasonably) asking: “Wait… why does it still say 2025.06 if it’s already 2026?” Hopefully this clears it up.

Some time ago, we decided to separate two things:

• Ongoing development on the master branch
• The release process, where each “release train” gets its own branch, plus tags for each bugfix iteration

The stabilization part can take a while. Hitting 10+ release candidates is pretty normal, and sometimes it drags on even longer — like it did with 2025.06. Add in defects, last minute additions of new features, real-life stuff, and the occasional delays… and suddenly it’s 2026.

Nonetheless here are the most important changes:

• Fix ground scars not being drawn. Another reminder that it's a bad idea to fit in a feature inside the release train.
• Fix NaN in CBitmapMuzzleFlame::Init() as NaNs are extremely contagious and turn every proper number into NaN should they come in contact!
• Another, most probably futile try to do something with 2025.06.10 Map icon corruption #2661, which in general remains mystery.
• Some icon fixes
• Some CI/CD cherry-picks to chug along with the master branch in that regard
