Releases: bornaradusin/PC5
Release list
PC5 1.9.8
Older 32-bit games get the memory Windows gives them, and Godot games get OpenGL.
Install
- ProsperoStore: update PC5 from its page in the store.
- PC5's own updater: Settings › System › Update now, or Update now when PC5 asks as it opens. It downloads only what changed when you have the version before, otherwise the whole app. PC5 restarts by itself when the update is installed.
What's new
- Memory, as on Windows: △ › Graphics › Memory is now Auto by default. A 32-bit game made for more memory (its program says so) gets 4 GB, as before; an older one gets the 2 GB Windows gives it. Some older games crashed with 4 GB: one asked for more memory than it could get, another went wrong on addresses above 2 GB. 4 GB still gives any 32-bit game 4 GB, for big textures and mods. A game you never changed is Auto now.
- Godot games: PC5 now recognises games made with the Godot engine and gives them OpenGL. Before, it saw them as Direct3D games and gave them no OpenGL at all.
- A failed folder listing says why: when a game can't list one of its folders, PC5's log now says which step refused it, so a report shows the cause.
- Updates as PC5 opens: when a newer PC5 is out, PC5 shows only its update window, without a console notification saying the same.
- Everything else in 1.9.7 is unchanged: the update check each time PC5 opens, the right update download from the start, Direct3D 12 for Unreal Engine 5 games, home screen tiles closing without an error, the Extra large overlay, and all since 1.8.2.
Which games run
See the game compatibility list, made from players' reports and issues. Got a game running? Add it: the form takes a minute.
Reporting a problem
Please report problems as an issue on GitHub, not in ProsperoStore's comments: A game doesn't run for a game, A problem with PC5 for PC5 itself. Attach the game's zip from /data/prospero-win/logs/ (issue-…zip, or the game's newest log-…zip when nothing crashed): the form asks for it, as the cause can't be found without it. △ on PC5's crash message opens the form for you, filled in. If an update from PC5 fails, the message says why; turn on Settings › System › Keep all logs, try again and attach PC5's own log. See Logs and debugging for what an issue may ask for.
Not supported
Games that need a store's launcher or client running (Steam, EA app, Ubisoft Connect, Rockstar Games Launcher), anti-cheat, and games that need kernel drivers. .NET programs that mix .NET and C++ (C++/CLI). 16-bit Windows and DOS programs. Recording or saving video from inside a game. Frame generation for DirectDraw games, games drawn without 3D, and HDR output. Changing a game's controller mode, resolution or aspect ratio while it runs. DRM protected. PC5 installed as a package (.pkg) can't update itself: it updates from a folder only.
PC5 1.9.8-file-manager-test2
A test build: a file manager inside PC5. The second one: a delete, copy or move that finished as it ran out of time no longer says "Not everything was deleted" (or copied, or moved) when all of it was done.
Install
Download PPSA11018.zip below and copy its PPSA11018 folder over the one you installed PC5 from, as when you added PC5. Your games, saves and settings stay. To go back, install 1.9.8 the same way. Over the first test build, install it the same way too.
What to try
- A game's own folder: in the library press △ on a game PC5 installed, then Manage › Game files. It shows only that game's folder.
- The whole console: Settings › File manager (between Overlay and System). It starts with Console storage (
/data), each USB and Extended storage drive, PC5's app and Whole console (those two read-only). - The buttons: ✕ opens a folder, □ ticks items, △ shows what can be done, ○ goes back, L1 / R1 jump eight rows.
- What △ offers: Copy, Cut, Paste, Rename, New folder, Delete and Tick all. Paste shows a bar and ○ stops it. When the folder has a name already, it asks: Skip, Keep both ("name (2)") or Replace. Delete asks first, with how many files and folders and how much.
- Between the two: copy a mod from a USB drive in Settings › File manager, then paste it in a game's folder from Manage › Game files.
- Report on GitHub: when a newer PC5 is out, △ on a crash message first offers it, with Update now and Report anyway.
What isn't known yet
- How fast copies to and from USB drives are on the console.
- Whether every drive the console mounts shows up in the places.
Please report what you find, with the log zip from /data/prospero-win/logs/: its PC5 files … lines show what the file manager did.
PC5 1.9.7
PC5 tells you about a new version as it opens, and updates know up front what they download.
Install
- ProsperoStore: update PC5 from its page in the store (fix).
- PC5's own updater: Settings › System › Update now, or Update now when PC5 asks as it opens. It downloads only what changed when you have the version before, otherwise the whole app. PC5 restarts by itself when the update is installed.
What's new
- Updates when PC5 opens: with Settings › System › Check when PC5 opens on, PC5 asks GitHub each time you open it, not at most once an hour, and shows a notification when a newer version is out.
- The right download from the start (for updates after 1.9.7, which this version's updater makes): PC5 says before it downloads anything whether the update is only what changed (you have the version before) or the whole app (you are more than one version behind), with its size. It no longer downloads the small update first and then the whole app.
- A quicker last step, also for updates after 1.9.7: putting the new files in place now writes to the disk only the folders an update changed.
- Direct3D 12: Unreal Engine 5 games that load Direct3D 12 themselves are now seen as DirectX 12 and drawn by VKD3D-Proton. Before, PC5 saw them as DirectX 11, and they said DirectX 12 isn't supported. A Direct3D 12 game that asks for graphics memory it can share no longer crashes as it starts: the console can't share it, so it gets ordinary memory.
- Everything in 1.9.6 is unchanged: home screen tiles closing without an error, the Extra large overlay, rumble on the controller's motors, updates that download only what changed, and all since 1.8.2.

PC5 1.9.6
Games started from their home screen tile close without an error.
Install
- ProsperoStore: update PC5 from its page in the store.
- PC5's own updater: Settings › System › Update now, or Update now when PC5 asks as it opens. It downloads only the files that changed. PC5 restarts by itself when the update is installed.
What's new
- Home screen tiles: closing a game started from its tile now goes back to the home screen as any app does. Before, the console showed "Game or App Error CE-108255-1" each time, though the game had closed normally.
- Everything in 1.9.5 is unchanged: the Extra large overlay, rumble on the controller's motors, fixes for older games' Direct3D and DirectDraw, folder listings, SteamGridDB covers and backgrounds, updates that download only what changed, and all since 1.8.2.

PC5 1.7.0
PC5 now updates itself from GitHub, and greets you with a sound on the controller.
Install
- Download
PPSA11018.zipand unzip it. - Replace the
PPSA11018folder on the console with the new one, the way you add homebrew. Your games, saves and settings stay where they are. - Start PC5. Options › About PC5 shows 1.7.0.
This is the last time you need to do this by hand: from 1.7.0 on, PC5 installs its own updates.
What's new
- PC5 updates itself: when PC5 opens and a newer release is out on GitHub, it asks Update now or Later. Later leaves it in Settings › Updates › Update now.
- PC5 downloads
PPSA11018.zipfrom the release and checks it against the size and SHA-256 GitHub lists for it. It then unpacks it, checking every file, and puts the new files in place of its own. When it's done, Close PC5 and open it again from the home screen. - The progress bar shows the download and the unpacking. ○ stops it until the files are put in place, and PC5 is then exactly as it was.
- PC5 finds its own folder on the console's drives: in
homebrew,etaHEN/gamesor at the top of a USB or extended drive. The folder stays where it is and only PC5's own files in it change, so the console keeps finding PC5 where it was installed; files you added at the top of the folder stay. PC5 also refreshes the console's copy of its icon andparam.json. If PC5 is on the console more than once, it asks you to delete the copy you don't use first. - It needs room on that drive for the download and its unpacked files, about four times the zip, freed again when it's done. If anything goes wrong before the new files are put in place, PC5 says why and stays as it was. Each file is replaced in one step and
eboot.binlast, so if the console turns off while they are being put in place, PC5 still opens, finishes the job and closes so you can open the new version. - Your games, saves and settings in
/data/prospero-winaren't touched.
- PC5 downloads
- Startup sound: PC5 plays its sound on the controller's speaker when you open it from the home screen (once, not when you come back from a game). Settings › In games › Startup sound turns it off.
- Everything in 1.6.6 is unchanged: DirectDraw games in 3D, games that start from a
.batfile, up to four players, DirectInput controllers, choosing a game's program, Report on GitHub, and one zip per log.

Say which PC5 version you use (Options › About PC5) and what happened. Without the log the cause can't be found. If an update from PC5 fails, the message says why; turn on Settings › Keep all logs, try again and attach PC5's own log.

PC5 1.9.5
An overlay you can read from across the room.
Install
- ProsperoStore: update PC5 from its page in the store.
- PC5's own updater: Settings › System › Update now, or Update now when PC5 asks as it opens. It downloads only the files that changed. PC5 restarts by itself when the update is installed.
What's new
- Extra large overlay: Settings › Overlay › Size › Extra large shows every line of the overlay at once at twice the size, with nothing taking turns. The console's display magnifies it, so it still costs games nothing. If a console refuses that, the overlay stays at its normal size.
- Everything in 1.9.4 is unchanged: rumble on the controller's motors, fixes for older games' Direct3D and DirectDraw, folder listings, SteamGridDB covers and backgrounds, updates that download only what changed, and all since 1.8.2.

Licence
PC5's own code is under the GNU LGPL 2.1 or later. The app as a whole is under the GPL 3.0 or later, because it includes the PS5 boilerplate's startup code and libc.prx; its source is PPSA11018-sources.tar.xz. Videos and sound use FFmpeg (LGPL 2.1 or later), Frame generation uses ps5-framegen (GPL 3.0 or later, its shaders from AMD FSR3 under MIT), home screen tiles use the PS5 Forwarder Format (GPL 3.0 or later), Report on GitHub's QR codes use Project Nayuki's QR Code generator (MIT), DXVK (zlib licence) is built with PC5's patches, RADV (MIT) is built with PC5's patch for Aspect ratio, and VKD3D-Proton (LGPL 2.1 or later) is built with PC5's patches for feature level 12_0 and shared resources. .NET uses Wine Mono (MIT, its parts under their own licences); its source is wine-mono-11.3.0-src.tar.xz. The fonts are Liberation (SIL Open Font License 1.1) and Droid Sans Fallback (Apache 2.0). Wine patches from PS5_MihawkOS by mihawk-99, a logging patch from NFS Black Box by lavavex and the movie, sound and controller fixes by SuperLeiyan are under the LGPL 2.1 or later (SuperLeiyan's DXVK fix under zlib); FAudio's resampler fix, as prospero-win backports it, is under zlib. Credits are in README.md and NOTICE.md.
PC5 1.9.5-usb-test
A test build: play games from the USB drive without copying them.
Install
Download PPSA11018.zip below and copy its PPSA11018 folder over the one you installed PC5 from, as when you added PC5. Your games, saves and settings stay. To go back, install 1.9.5 the same way.
What to try
- Settings › Game maintenance › Install games from USB, choose a game. The review screen has △ Play from USB beside ✕ Install.
- △ Play from USB: PC5 sets up the game's Windows on the console (saves, settings, shader cache) and copies none of the game's files. The library says USB before the game's details.
- Start the game, with the drive plugged in. With it unplugged, PC5 says to plug it in instead of starting. The drive can be in any USB port.
- Uninstalling deletes only what is on the console; the game's folder on the drive stays as it is. △ › Manage › Update isn't offered: copy the newer version over the folder on the drive.
What isn't known yet
- Whether the console lets Wine run a game's program and its libraries from the USB drive. If the game doesn't start, its log says why.
- Whether games can write to the drive: some keep their saves or settings in their own folder.
- How much slower loading is from a USB drive, especially a hard drive.
Please report what you find, with the game's log zip from /data/prospero-win/logs/: its PC5 play from usb dir=… line shows where PC5 found the game.
PC5 1.9.4
Rumble that reaches the controller's motors again, and fixes for older games.
Install
- ProsperoStore: update PC5 from its page in the store.
- PC5's own updater: Settings › System › Update now, or Update now when PC5 asks as it opens. It downloads only the files that changed. PC5 restarts by itself when the update is installed.
What's new
- Rumble: a game's rumble moves the controller's motors again. The PS5 opened controllers in its advanced haptics mode, where the classic two-motor rumble games send was accepted but moved nothing, while the adaptive triggers still played. PC5 now sets each player's controller to the compatible vibration mode.
- Older games' Direct3D and DirectDraw: in games drawn through DXVK, Wine's own Direct3D now draws with Vulkan too. A game's DirectDraw parts, and system checks that ask for the graphics card's memory, found no graphics at all before: a picture drawn wrong, or a check saying the video memory is too small.
- Folders a game lists: a folder whose listing failed with "invalid handle" is listed again. A game that loads its maps from such a folder showed modes that did nothing and an empty screen for Load Game.
- Windows version: a game whose own system check refused the Windows version Wine reports is told it runs on the Windows it was made for.
- Everything in 1.9.3 is unchanged: SteamGridDB covers and backgrounds, menus read in full, updates that download only what changed, and all since 1.8.2.

PC5 1.9.3
Covers and backgrounds from SteamGridDB, and menus that are readable to the last word.
Install
- ProsperoStore: update PC5 from its page in the store.
- PC5's own updater: Settings › System › Update now, or Update now when PC5 asks as it opens. It downloads only the files that changed. PC5 restarts by itself when the update is installed.
What's new
- SteamGridDB: covers and backgrounds made by SteamGridDB's members, with a free key of your own. PC5 makes
/data/prospero-win/api_keys.txtthe first time it opens: put your key afterSTEAMGRIDDB_API_KEY=. SteamGridDB's covers come after Steam's when PC5 picks one, and are offered beside the others when you choose one by hand. When Steam has a game's cover but no background, SteamGridDB's background is used. Without a key PC5 works as before. PC5 never shows your key or writes it to its logs. See SteamGridDB. - No more Wikipedia pictures: they were often not the game's cover. Steam, SteamGridDB, GOG, PCGamingWiki and Wikidata remain, each in Settings › System › Picture sources.
- Less kept on the console: a game keeps only its cover and background, not the picture as it was downloaded; copies earlier versions kept are deleted. Uninstalling a game with Keep saves now deletes its cover and background too; installing it again gets them anew.
- Graphics API in a window: △ › Graphics › Graphics API opens a window with each choice and all it does, the one in use marked.
- Menus read in full: the description of the chosen row takes two lines when it needs them, in Settings and in a game's menu, and nothing runs under the ✕ / ○ hints any more, the update rows of Settings › System included. Messages and questions grow to fit their text.
- Everything in 1.9.2 is unchanged: a Graphics API for each game, the large overlay, updates that download only what changed, and all since 1.8.2.

PC5 1.9.2
A choice of graphics for each game, and an overlay you can read from the sofa.
Install
- ProsperoStore: update PC5 from its page in the store.
- PC5's own updater: Settings › System › Update now, or Update now when PC5 asks as it opens. It downloads only the files that changed. PC5 restarts by itself when the update is installed.
What's new
- Graphics API for each game: △ › Graphics › Graphics API chooses who turns a game's Direct3D or DirectDraw into Vulkan, which the console draws with. Auto, the default, is PC5's choice as before (DXVK, or VKD3D-Proton for Direct3D 12). For a game that doesn't run or doesn't look right that way, try WineD3D (Wine's own Direct3D, with OpenGL), WineD3D on Vulkan, or Wine's VKD3D for a Direct3D 12 game. The choice stays with the game. See Graphics API.
- A large overlay: Settings › Overlay › Size › Large shows the overlay's lines twice the size, two at a time, taking turns every 3 seconds when more are on, so FPS, CPU, temperatures and memory are readable on a TV.
- Everything in 1.9.1 is unchanged: older 32-bit games that crashed reading their thread's data, updates that download only what changed, and all since 1.8.2.
