SSL Authentication Error

OS: Debian 9
MySQL: 8.0.12
mysql-async: 2.1.1
essentialmode: 5.0.3

server.cfg:
set mysql_connection_string "server=127.0.0.1;database=essentialmode;userid=user;password=pass"

Error on server launch:
[ERROR] [MySQL] An error happens on MySQL for query "SELECT * FROM items {=}": SSL Authentication Error

I am aware of the issues mysql 8.x is causing due to its changed encryption. Try altering the auth method that the user uses the following way:

ALTER USER 'user'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED WITH mysql_native_password BY 'pass';

I can't fix this in mysql-async as it needs to be fixed in the mysqljs library.
