Doorbell Images

MessageCenter can download an image when a message arrives and preserve those exact bytes in memory. This prevents a camera URL from showing a newer frame when the message is read later.

Enable image ingestion:

images: {
  enabled: true,
  maxBytes: 1024 * 1024,
  maxCachedImages: 12,
  maxTotalBytes: 12 * 1024 * 1024,
  timeout: 5000,
  allowPrivateHosts: false,
  allowHttp: false
}

Example message:

{
  "id": "doorbell-event-id",
  "type": "security.doorbell",
  "source": "home-assistant.camera",
  "title": "Someone is at the door",
  "body": "Doorbell motion was detected.",
  "urgency": "critical",
  "retention": "untilAcknowledged",
  "image": {
    "url": "https://images.example.net/events/doorbell.jpg",
    "alt": "Doorbell camera snapshot"
  }
}

HTTPS and public hosts are required by default. Enable private hosts or HTTP only for a trusted local camera network. Images are kept in memory and are discarded when their history is removed or MagicMirror restarts.
