Example Datasets
This page has a number of simple Helium format datasets which you are free to use to evaluate Helium. Hopefully, these will inspire you to start creating your own!
Right-click links below then choose the "Save link as" option to save the .helium files to your desktop.
Don't worry about the .helium files. They are plain .txt files which can be edited in any text editor. We are particularly fond of Notepad++ but any will do. The main advantage to using the .helium extension is your Helium input files will appear with the Helium logo from within your operating system.
Golden Promise is a spring barley variety that was produced by gamma-ray mutation of the variety Maythorpe. On of the resulting lines had short-straw and that was multiplied and tested before being released as Golden Promise, which went on to dominate spring barley and Scotch Whisky production in the 1970s and early 1980s. A short-strawed sister line was used to produce another popular variety, Midas, which was then used in further crossing to produce several other UK recommended varieties. The Midas short-strawed gene was also found in the variety Dash that was not recommended in the UK but was used to produce the Australian varieties Hindmarsh and La Trobe, which also carry the same gene as do some of their derivatives.
