Highlights
English build: the untranslated screens in English
The English patch left many screens untranslated and cut many lines short. They're English now:
- Menus: the Game Mode menu (all 8 titles and their descriptions), Online / Compare Records, Game Settings' values, the Project D homepage (toolbar, icons, Updates / Info), Select Modifications' Performance / Exterior tabs, the Garage / Card Collection titles.
- Race setup: Select Transmission (Manual / Automatic), Select Track (course names, maps, rivals), and Select Route for every course - Clockwise / Anti-clockwise, Uphill / Downhill, Inbound / Outbound and Reverse - plus Dry / Wet and Day / Night.
- Races: the start banner (every course's name, route, time and weather), the record panel's TOTAL BEST / CAR BEST, and the finish's Replay / Save Replay / Next.
- After the race: the Driving Data panel, the map legends, the coach's advice written out in full (the patch had cut every line, e.g. "You're hitting the wal"), and Retry / Select Course / Quit.
- Story mode: Select Opponent ("BATTLE 1 [ Clockwise - Day - Dry ]", Level), "Press START to skip", the Rematch? menu after a battle (Rematch / Travel / Quit / Accept), and story lines too long for the screen now fit.
- Text the patch cut short (~135 lines, e.g. "Create N") shown in full, and the save list's "No driver file" spelled right (the patch's font was missing letters).
- Prefer the patch's own look? F1 -> Quick -> "Prefer the original menus?" takes you to the switches: all off at once, or screen by screen (F1 -> Graphics -> Textures -> English patch fixes).
One-click room races
- Start a race for the whole room: in an online room (F1 -> Online -> Rooms), the owner picks course, direction, time and weather and presses Start the race for everyone. Every player's game drives itself there - out of a race, out of the menus or from the title - and the start waits for everyone to arrive. (Known issue: once in testing one player still started early. If it happens to you, F1 -> Home -> "Send my log" right after.)
- Everyone sees each other's real cars in room races (their car, paint and look), not copies of your own.
- Your own gearbox: each player picks AT / MT / the one they used last (Rooms -> My gearbox).
- The race music plays (the course's song, or your playlist).
- Room races need a driver file loaded; join from the title screen and you're taken in once you've picked one.
New
- Garage in the F1 menu (Car -> Garage): change any of your cars' parts, tuning course, tune-up step and paint, kept in sync with the game's own Garage and Tuning screens. Part lists show only parts that car really has, named (wheels by make and size, e.g. "Volk TE37 16in bronze"). Picking a car here drives it.
- 3D car preview with the fitted parts, paint, wheels and vinyl - turn it by dragging, with the angle slider, or Pause; size slider; pointing at a part lights it up. Also on F1 -> Car -> Paint & skin (was "My car"), so the colour you pick shows on the car as you pick it.
- Wheels from any car: fit any of the game's 225 wheels to your car, listed by make and model.
- Sky editor, loading screen editor and world colour editor: build sky effects from layers (or write your own sky shader), make your own loading screens, and colour themes for the world.
- BPM sync: songs' beats are detected, so effects can follow the music.
- Skip the title screen (F1 -> Quick).
- Leaderboard website: https://cassnadra.github.io/initialdpsponpc/ - every course's ranking, driver profiles, search and filters, ghost replays on the course map. In game: F1 -> Online -> Leaderboard -> "Open on the website".
- Sharper car pictures on your profile: 24 angles at 384x216, framed closer.
- Cinematic replay camera: in the free camera's timeline (F8 in a replay) click a keyframe to set how the camera gets there (smooth, straight, ease, or a cut), what it looks at (its own direction, a point, or a car) and what it rides with (tracking shots); "Following" switches which car the follow camera tracks.
- Send my log: F1 -> Home -> Problems? -> "Send my log" sends your log, settings and PC parts with a note (user names and network addresses blanked; a copy stays in the
reportsfolder). "Record performance details" helps find slowdowns.
Fixes
- Ghosts: a checkpoint banner no longer rides along with your ghosts after you pass under it, and ghosts off screen aren't drawn (with several ghosts on Akina the frame rate could halve).
- Leaderboard: clockwise Usui runs were filed on the anti-clockwise board (both directions start on the same spot). They're on "Usui (reverse)" now, older versions' runs included.
- Profile car: your profile could show the wrong car (a car's snapshot could be saved under another car). If yours still does, delete that car's file in the
carsnapfolder - it's taken again in your next race. - Missing bumpers / wheels: a car set to a part it has no model for raced without it; such parts go back to stock (driver file fixed too) and can't be fitted.
- Sound stopping in long sessions: the sound device and music player recover by themselves.
- Music in folders with non-English names is found, and song names are tidier.
- Skins with paint effects (rainbow / pulse / chameleon) no longer flicker.
- Underglow on the menu showroom car.
- The loading screen shows the car you drive.
v0.97.4 (pre-release)
Pre-release - players on 0.97.0 aren't told about it. With "Get pre-release updates" on, the game offers it.
English build: much more of the game in English
- Menus: the Game Mode menu (titles and descriptions), Online / Compare Records, Game Settings' values, the Project D homepage, Select Modifications' tabs, the save list's "No driver file" (the patch's font was missing letters).
- Race setup: Select Route's Clockwise / Anti-clockwise, Uphill / Downhill, Inbound / Outbound and Reverse; Dry / Wet; Day / Night; MT / AT with Manual / Automatic.
- Races: the start banner, the record panel's TOTAL BEST / CAR BEST, the finish's Replay / Save Replay / Next, the Driving Data panel.
- Story mode: the Rematch? menu after a battle (Rematch / Travel / Quit / Accept), and story lines too long for the screen now fit.
- Text the patch cut short is shown in full.
- Don't like it? F1 -> Quick -> "Prefer the original menus?" takes you to the switches: all off at once, or screen by screen (F1 -> Graphics -> Textures -> English patch fixes).
Fixes
- Ghosts: a checkpoint banner no longer rides along with your ghosts after you pass under it.
- Ghosts and frame rate: ghosts that are off screen aren't drawn - with several ghosts on Akina the frame rate could halve.
- Profile car: your profile could show the wrong car (a car's 3D snapshot could be saved under another car). Snapshots are only saved for the car actually in the race now. If yours still shows the wrong car, delete that car's file in the
carsnapfolder - it is taken again in your next race.
Everything from v0.97.1 - v0.97.3 is included.
Update in game with "Update now", or download the zip below (put your ISO next to the launchers).
v0.97.3 (pre-release): cinematic replay camera, English after-race screens, garage car fix
Pre-release - players on 0.97.0 aren't told about it. With "Get pre-release updates" on, the game offers it.
New
- Cinematic replay camera: in the free camera's timeline (F8 in a replay), click a keyframe to edit it:
- Getting here: how the camera moves to it - smooth, straight, ease in/out, or a cut (a hard jump at that moment).
- Looks at: its own direction, a point (fly there and press "Set point here"), or a car, so it pans to keep that car in frame.
- Rides with: a car, so the camera travels with it (tracking shots).
- Following: a button that switches which car the follow camera (F) tracks. Pressing K while following makes a tracking keyframe.
- English build: after-race screens in English. The race analysis (Driving Data panel, map legends, the button bar) and the post-race menu (Retry / Select Course / Quit) were left in Chinese by the English patch. They're English now, and the coach's advice is written out in full (the patch had cut every line short, e.g. "You're hitting the wal").
Fixes
- Picking a car in F1 -> Garage now drives it: before, only the slot changed, so races kept your old car until you picked it again in the game's own Garage (your parts were saved either way).
- The loading screen shows the car you drive instead of the old one.
Everything from v0.97.1 and v0.97.2 is included.
Update in game with "Update now", or download the zip below (put your ISO next to the launchers).
v0.97.2 (pre-release): send your log, install any version, sharper car pictures
Pre-release - players on 0.97.0 aren't told about it. On 0.97.1 with "Get pre-release updates" on, the game offers it.
New
- Install any version: pre-release builds can now install any published version, newer or older (F1 -> Home -> Updates -> "Install a specific version"). Your saves, settings, ghosts and music stay.
- Send my log: having problems? F1 -> Home -> Problems? -> "Send my log" sends port.log (this run and the one before), settings.ini, your PC's parts (CPU, graphics card + driver, RAM, monitor) and a note to the developer. Windows user names and network addresses are blanked, and a copy is kept in the
reportsfolder. - Record performance details (same place, off by default): a debug option for slowdowns. It times every frame (the game's code, drawing, the graphics card) and writes a summary to port.log every 10 s, so a report shows whether the PC or the port is the bottleneck. Turn it on, play a race where it's slow, then send your log.
- Sharper car pictures on your profile: your car's turntable picture is now 24 angles at 384×216 (was 12 at 192×108), framed closer, so it turns smoothly and looks clean on the leaderboard website and on profile cards in game. It's made again the next time you load into a race; pictures from players on older versions still show as before.
Fixes
- No more missing bumpers / wheels from impossible parts: a garage car set to a part it has no model for (from an edited save or an older test build) raced with that part missing - no bumper, no wing, even no wheels - while the menus showed stock. Such parts now go back to Stock automatically (your driver file is fixed too), and they can't be fitted any more.
Everything from v0.97.1 is included (Garage with 3D preview, any tyres on any car, leaderboard website link, pre-release channel / "Go back to the stable version").
Update in game with "Update now", or download the zip below (put your ISO next to the launchers).
v0.97.1 (pre-release): Garage, 3D car preview, any tyres, leaderboard website
Pre-release - new features being tested. Players on 0.97.0 aren't told about it; download it here if you want to try it. Found a problem? Send port.log or a crash report.
New
- Garage in the F1 menu (Car → Garage): change any of your garage cars' parts, tuning course, tune-up step and paint, kept in sync with the game's own Garage and Tuning screens. Each part list shows only the parts that car really has, named by course (A/B/C) and, for wheels, by make and size (e.g. "Volk TE37 16in bronze").
- 3D preview of the car with its fitted parts, paint, wheels and your vinyl. It turns by itself; drag it, use the angle slider or press Pause. Pointing at a part's row lights that part up in yellow.
- Any tyres on any car: fit another car's wheels to yours (Garage → "Wheels from any car").
- Leaderboard website: https://cassnadra.github.io/initialdpsponpc/ - every course's ranking, driver profiles, search and filters, and ghost replays on the course map. In game: F1 → Online → Leaderboard → "Open on the website".
- Pre-release channel (this build only): F1 → Quick → Updates → "Get pre-release updates" (on), and "Go back to the stable version", which installs the latest stable release in place of this one. Your saves, settings, ghosts and music stay either way.
Note: in races, a part only shows if the car has it - pick parts from the Garage lists rather than editing save files.
Download the zip below and put your ISO next to the launchers.
v0.97.0 - Runs to MP4 + versus camera fixes
New
- Your runs → MP4: F1 → Replays → "Your runs → MP4". Films any finished solo run from the bumper camera in a hidden copy of the game while you keep playing, with a progress bar. Videos go to the
videosfolder.
Fixes
- Versus: the hood camera no longer breaks the rear-view mirror, trails are drawn in the right place, and the mirror stays clean with the GPU effects on.
- Sun shadows stay put when no car is in view (free camera looking away).
- Smoothing no longer gets stuck at 60 fps after a load spike. Display labels are clearer.
- Leaderboard: no more duplicate Myougi tab. Your profile is only re-sent when something actually changes.
Update in game with "Update now", or download the zip below (put your ISO next to the launchers).
v0.96.1 - Adjustable Smoothing
Smoothing budget + VSync toggles, ghost listing in Replays tab
v0.9.6 - Bug fixes + MP doesnt dox you anymore
Bug-fix + online polish update! Use "Update now" in the game. Everyone in an online race should be on the same version.
- Menu help stays on screen: the explanation popup on the game mode and Communication menus now stays visible the whole time you're on the menu instead of fading out after a few seconds (and now covers the Options entry too).
- Leaderboard fairness: versus and party races (where collisions are on) are no longer sent to the solo time-attack leaderboard, and finished runs no longer re-send duplicate times.
- Online & Players tab: Steam profile pictures now show in
F1 -> Online -> Players, and online rooms use your chosen driver name (lb_name/ Steam) instead of your PC account name. - Crash fix: switching between controller and keyboard in menus no longer crashes when reloading button prompts and car skins.
Download: InitialD_port_v0.9.6.zip below (or press "Update now" in the game).
v0.9.5 - any earned card as your profile picture
Show off your collection! Use "Update now" in the game.
- Any card as your profile picture: every collection card you've earned (characters, cars, courses and the rest - 173 in all) can be your picture now, not just the 30 character cards. F1 -> Online -> Profile -> Picture, sorted into sections with how many you've earned. Cards from "unlock all" still don't count.
- Players on 0.9.4 or older see cards past #127 as the default portrait until they update.
- Profile page: no empty "best times" table before you've set a time.
Download: InitialD_port_v0.9.5.zip below (or "Update now" in the game).
v0.9.4 - readable menus, global chat, friends, netplay reports
Social + menus update! On 0.9.2 or newer? Use "Update now" in the game. Everyone in an online race needs the same version.
- Menus you can read: the button bar under each menu title is now in English and shows your keys - or your controller's buttons, switching live to whatever you used last. The game mode and Communication menus explain the highlighted option (how to get to Time Attack, Versus, the Garage...). Both can be turned off in F1 -> Controls.
- F1 -> Online -> Players: global chat, who's online, a "looking for a race" line, friends (yours + Steam friends who are on), invites to your room, block and report.
- Room chat in F1 -> Online -> Rooms; new messages show bottom-left while the menu is closed.
- Connection info: ping / jitter / loss for each player, and "Send netplay report" (also offered after a dropped connection) - it sends the connection log (addresses blanked) so online problems can be fixed.
- Profile page: your own best times and positions. Car previews without the room backdrop.
- Fixed: the song names on the course select didn't update after changing music options in F1.
Found a bug? Send me port.log from the game folder, or use "Send netplay report" for online trouble.
Download: InitialD_port_v0.9.4.zip below (players on 0.9.2 / 0.9.3: just press "Update now" in the game).
