DevCatz 1.0.3
DevCatz 1.0.3 works hand in hand with DoCatz, the container manager of the Catzoid family. The Docker tab is rebuilt around one flow, from picking where containers run to a production docker-compose.yml ready for Dokploy, and DevCatz and DoCatz now share their domain settings.
Docker tab, in three steps
- Docker engine: choose where your containers run while you test them: DoCatz (recommended), OrbStack, Docker Desktop and the others DevCatz finds. Only the engines you have installed are listed, and one that is stopped starts when you pick it.
- Docker files: a project with its own Docker setup sees it first and keeps it. Otherwise DevCatz generates the Dockerfiles and a production
docker-compose.yml, the file Dokploy and Coolify read by default. You choose one compose file or one per service, Database & Redis, and Dokploy's network. - Test in containers: run Build & Up, Down, Restart or Build only. A progress panel shows building, steps and container states, and you can Cancel a run. Under DoCatz, each container gets a name like
https://web.shop.docatz.localhost.
More on Docker:
- Monorepos: compose files in
docker/,deploy/,.docker/,infra/andops/are found too, and each one says which of the site's apps it builds. - Your
.envreaches the containers: hosts on this computer (DB_HOST=127.0.0.1, service URLs on localhost) becomehost.docker.internalfor the containers, without changing your files. On DoCatz you choose whether its own.envis kept or replaced with the project's. - Production files from Dokploy just run: a missing external network such as
dokploy-networkis created locally. - Worktrees: a worktree runs beside its main site, with its own container names and no fixed ports.
- Development services:
docker-compose.dev.ymlholds only the services the app uses (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, Mailpit …). - Header actions: Compose Up / Down live in Build ▾, under their own heading, and open the Docker tab with the progress. They are greyed out while a run is going. Start now runs only the site itself.
- Logs: Docker output has its own colours, with a filter per service in one scrolling row and a Copy button.
DoCatz and the family
- Shared domain settings: DevCatz and DoCatz share the default domain, the local certificate authority and names without a port. DoCatz's
*.docatz.<tld>names work through DevCatz's proxy. - Open in DoCatz buttons, with Download & Install when DoCatz is not there yet.
- On Windows, Docker runs in DoCatz: Docker-based gateways (Postal, ntfy, Gotify, Jasmin, Telegram Bot API, WAHA) and Docker sites use DoCatz's engine. DevCatz explains in plain words when Windows Firewall or a
127.0.0.1-only service keeps a container from reaching your computer. - Windows DNS: when DoCatz already serves DevCatz's names, DevCatz uses it instead of reporting a conflict.
- About: the Catzoid apps sit in one row and open their pages. MCatzP sits below them.
Also new
- Sites list: Expand all / Collapse all.
- Runtimes → Tools: an update that leaves the old version in place is reported as failed, not done.
- Solana: updates take effect. While Anchor is installed, Solana stays on the release Anchor uses, because Anchor switches back to it each time it runs. The Tools card explains this.
- Overview: a polyglot site lists its frameworks as compact chips, so Stack stays in view.
- Welcome: the dialog fits small windows; its setup steps scroll.
- Saving a
.env: if the site's containers run, DevCatz warns that they keep the old values until Build & Up. - Update badges use DevCatz's own colour.
Install: download below, from catzoid.com/devcatz/download, or with Homebrew: brew tap catzoidhub/catz && brew trust catzoidhub/catz && brew install --cask devcatz. DevCatz 1.0.2 updates itself.
The Windows installer is not code-signed. It is a stable release, built by GitHub Actions from the public source, but Windows SmartScreen warns when you open it: choose More info → Run anyway. Free signing from the SignPath Foundation needs a project that more people use and talk about. A ⭐ on this repository, issues, pull requests and write-ups all help DevCatz get there (code signing policy).
Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 13 or later; signed and notarized by Apple, and the app updates itself. Windows 10 / 11 x64: DevCatz-Setup-1.0.3.exe (not code-signed, see above), updates itself as well.
