  • Web links are opened in Obsidian's Web Viewer, if this core plugin is enabled; if it's not, the system's default browser will be used instead.

Advanced options

Clicking on the gear (⚙️) icon opens advanced options:

Where to open

Choose where to open URIs that are external links (i.e., web page URLs): Default (current tab), in a Modal, New tab, Split pane, or in a New window. Obsidian's Web Viewer ↗ must be enabled.

  • If Web Viewer is not enabled (or on mobile where it's not available), the link will open in the system's default browser (outside of Obsidian).
  • If Web Viewer is enabled and not set to Open external links, Note Toolbar will still use it for the non-default view types.
  • Use modifier keys to override this setting.
  • Modal window width can be adjusted (on desktop) via Style Settings.

Variables

Variables let you substitute values like properties into URIs, which can include internal link to files within your vault.
