Tip
This helpful article ↗ provides tips and examples of linking to external files and folders.
Clicking on the gear (⚙️) icon opens advanced options:
Choose where to open URIs that are external links (i.e., web page URLs): Default (current tab), in a Modal, New tab, Split pane, or in a New window. Obsidian's Web Viewer ↗ must be enabled.
- If Web Viewer is not enabled (or on mobile where it's not available), the link will open in the system's default browser (outside of Obsidian).
- If Web Viewer is enabled and not set to Open external links, Note Toolbar will still use it for the non-default view types.
- Use modifier keys to override this setting.
- Modal window width can be adjusted (on desktop) via Style Settings.
Variables let you substitute values like properties into URIs, which can include internal link to files within your vault.
