Folderite 0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 16:34

What's new

  • Hovering over the tray icon now shows Folderite's version, for example "Folderite 0.4.2".

See 0.4.0 for this version's main features: a keyboard shortcut for the menu, subfolders as a submenu, recent folders that favor the current app, start folders for Open and Save dialogs, and a Drives submenu.

Install or upgrade

  1. Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if you don't have it.
  2. Quit Folderite from the tray, unzip Folderite-0.4.2-win-x64.zip over your Folderite folder, and start Folderite.exe again. Your settings are kept. In portable mode, don't delete the config.json in that folder.

Requires Windows 10 1903 or later; Windows 11 recommended.

What's fixed

  • In Settings › Favorites, the note "The folder itself is at the top of the submenu." now only shows when Show subfolders in a submenu is on.

See 0.4.0 for this version's new features: a keyboard shortcut for the menu, subfolders as a submenu, recent folders that favor the current app, start folders for Open and Save dialogs, and a Drives submenu.

Install or upgrade

  1. Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if you don't have it.
  2. Quit Folderite from the tray, unzip Folderite-0.4.1-win-x64.zip over your Folderite folder, and start Folderite.exe again. Your settings are kept. In portable mode, don't delete the config.json in that folder.

Requires Windows 10 1903 or later; Windows 11 recommended.

What's new

  • Keyboard shortcut. Set one under Settings › General and it opens the folder menu for the window in front, so you don't need a middle button. If that window isn't one Folderite supports, the folder you pick opens in a new Explorer window. Settings tells you if another app already uses the shortcut. There's no shortcut until you set one.
  • Subfolders as a submenu. Turn on Show subfolders in a submenu for a favorite to browse one level down, sorted by name or newest first. The folder itself is the bold item at the top. A slow or offline network folder shows an empty submenu instead of freezing the menu.
  • Recent folders know the app. Folders you use in an app now rank higher when you open the menu in that app, so a Save dialog in one program favors that program's folders.
  • Start folders for Open and Save dialogs. On the new Dialogs page in Settings, turn on Start in the last folder used to have each app's dialogs open where you last were in that app, or set a fixed folder for a specific app. Both are off until you set them. A file name you've typed is kept, and a dialog the app opened with a full path is left alone.
  • Drives submenu. An optional Drives submenu lists your drives with their free space. Turn it on under Settings › Menu.

Install or upgrade

  1. Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if you don't have it.
  2. Quit Folderite from the tray, unzip Folderite-0.4.0-win-x64.zip over your Folderite folder, and start Folderite.exe again. Your settings are kept. In portable mode, don't delete the config.json in that folder.

Requires Windows 10 1903 or later; Windows 11 recommended.

Known limits

  • Saving from Settings rewrites config.json, so // comments in it are not kept.
  • Total Commander with non-ASCII paths and XYplorer paths with spaces are not tested yet.
  • Elevated (admin) windows only work if Folderite also runs elevated.
  • The keyboard shortcut hasn't been tried with Directory Opus, Total Commander or Blender yet.

Folderite 0.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 12:18

What's new

  • Blender's file browser. Middle-click in Blender's File View window (Open, Import, Export, folder pickers) and pick a folder to send the file browser there. Folderite types the path into Blender's path field for you and puts your clipboard back afterwards. Blender doesn't expose its current folder, so the menu has no "current folder" entry there.
  • Folderite is now open source under the MIT license, with screenshots and animations in the README.

Install or upgrade

  1. Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if you don't have it.
  2. Quit Folderite from the tray, unzip Folderite-0.3.0-win-x64.zip over your Folderite folder, and start Folderite.exe again.

Folderite 0.2.0

@combwizard combwizard released this 28 Oct 03:45

What's new

  • Choose where your settings live. Settings → General → Change location… moves your config and folder history to any folder, such as a synced one. Use default moves them back. If the folder already has Folderite settings, you choose whether to use those or replace them; the replaced files are kept as .bak.
  • Portable mode from Settings. Pick Folderite's own folder and Folderite becomes portable: its settings travel with the folder, for example on a USB stick. From portable mode you can move them out again the same way.
  • New icon for the app, the tray, the taskbar and the Settings window.

Moving settings restarts Folderite in the background and reopens Settings in place. If anything goes wrong, nothing changes: your files stay where they were.

Install or upgrade

  1. Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if you don't have it.
  2. Quit Folderite from the tray, unzip Folderite-0.2.0-win-x64.zip over your Folderite folder, and start Folderite.exe again.

@combwizard combwizard released this 28 Oct 03:24

First release.

Middle-click in Explorer, an Open/Save dialog, Directory Opus, Total Commander or XYplorer to get a folder menu: favorites, folders open in other windows, recent folders and the folder on the clipboard. Picking one sends that window there.

What's in it

  • Folder menu with a Windows 11 look: follows light/dark mode, shell icons, dimmed parent paths, keyboard shortcuts (& letters).
  • Settings app (tray → Settings…): edit favorites with drag and drop, actions, menu sections, exclusions and folder history. Changes apply immediately; Preview menu shows the result.
  • Start with Windows, Pause, and a portable mode (put config.json next to the exe).

Install

  1. Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if you don't have it.
  2. Unzip Folderite-0.1.0-win-x64.zip anywhere and run Folderite.exe. It lives in the tray.
