What's new

  • Keyboard shortcut. Set one under Settings › General and it opens the folder menu for the window in front, so you don't need a middle button. If that window isn't one Folderite supports, the folder you pick opens in a new Explorer window. Settings tells you if another app already uses the shortcut. There's no shortcut until you set one.
  • Subfolders as a submenu. Turn on Show subfolders in a submenu for a favorite to browse one level down, sorted by name or newest first. The folder itself is the bold item at the top. A slow or offline network folder shows an empty submenu instead of freezing the menu.
  • Recent folders know the app. Folders you use in an app now rank higher when you open the menu in that app, so a Save dialog in one program favors that program's folders.
  • Start folders for Open and Save dialogs. On the new Dialogs page in Settings, turn on Start in the last folder used to have each app's dialogs open where you last were in that app, or set a fixed folder for a specific app. Both are off until you set them. A file name you've typed is kept, and a dialog the app opened with a full path is left alone.
  • Drives submenu. An optional Drives submenu lists your drives with their free space. Turn it on under Settings › Menu.

Install or upgrade

  1. Install the .NET 10 Desktop Runtime (x64) if you don't have it.
  2. Quit Folderite from the tray, unzip Folderite-0.4.0-win-x64.zip over your Folderite folder, and start Folderite.exe again. Your settings are kept. In portable mode, don't delete the config.json in that folder.

Requires Windows 10 1903 or later; Windows 11 recommended.

Known limits

  • Saving from Settings rewrites config.json, so // comments in it are not kept.
  • Total Commander with non-ASCII paths and XYplorer paths with spaces are not tested yet.
  • Elevated (admin) windows only work if Folderite also runs elevated.
  • The keyboard shortcut hasn't been tried with Directory Opus, Total Commander or Blender yet.
