We won't allow PHP code within Twig templates for security reasons, but I'm not against the idea of allowing pure PHP templates.

If we did, they should probably be interchangeable, so a PHP template could still extend a Twig template. Not sure if this would be overcomplicating it, but one option would be that we just let you define actual Twig template classes, complete with block methods, etc.
