Customisable deck building (e.g. tags/nested-tags)

Hello,
I checked out the LearnKit plugin and have some thoughts and issues to share.

1. Bug? a note got nearly wiped out.
   I've been using Spaced Repetition plugin and had a dictionary note 1/3 formatted to flashcards using
   :: - for a basic flashcard,
   ::: - for two way flashcard,
   xyz
   ?
   xyz
   abc - for multiple line basic flashcard and
   xyz
   ??
   xyz
   abc - for multiple line two way flashcard
   While I was getting to know LearnKit I synced it few times, noticed that all ::: formatted entries got switched to LearnKit format (obviously), but after syncing it some more all the other entries (either still in Spaced Repetition format or just separated by dashes) got deleted. I don't understand why it would happen. All entries were under one headline if it matters. Similar happened to other, smaller note with roughly 15 flashcards, only the ones with ::: formatting stayed, but this time the rest of the note was all in tact. All flashcards were separated form the main note with their own header.

2. Request for (nested) tag deck building
   Option in settings to choose deck building by groups/tags instead of folder structure OR just list of groups in addition to list of decks (not just searching).

3. Request for choosing special characters used for shorhands

4. Request for excluding folders/choosing tags for flashcard sync

5. Request for more compact formatting in flashcards with bullet lists or line breaks (distance between lines is quite big)

6. Bug? Can't bulk edit basic flashcards into reversed
   I select several flashcards in library, edit basic to basic(reversed) and nothing happens.

7. Request to add shorthand for reversed flashcard

8. Request to randomize flashcard queue
   Maybe It's just for the first run, but still with reversed flashcards getting two versions of one flashcard next to each other is a bit annoying.

9. Demos in Guide are missing

I think it's all I wanted to share for now.

I will look through all of these over the coming 1-2 weeks and come up with some solutions.

With regard to #8 there is a sibling card behaviour control in Study in Settings. This can be used to stop siblings (e.g. reversed cards showing up next to each other!)

To clarify #1 is it only can you send me some of the markdown flashcards that were deleted on sync vs those that were converted? Also you can also sync by note only in command palette if you don't want to do a vault-wide sync if you're concerned about deletion!

I've been working on a solution for issue #1. The focus is supporting better migration from Obsidian SR to LearnKit. The parser now recognises Obsidian SR syntax and converts this to LearnKit syntax.

For example the following snippet is example Obsidian SR code:

Meaning that LearnKit will effectively migrate card content from Obsidian SR into LearnKit. Unfortunately it will not transition scheduling data.

Now some users want to keep their old data, so I have also implemented a fix for #4.

Using the same scope selector as Note Review, you can now customise which folders, tags, notes or YML fields are included or excluded from generating flashcards.

I have tested this, if I exclude a note, for example note 'Test', and then run the sync, it will not create flashcards from that note or convert Obsidian SR coding into LearnKit coding.

I will keep working through the rest of your feedback slowly.

To test the fixes for #1 and #4, download the latest build files from dist – main.js and styles.css, and overwrite the existing versions of these files in your local LearnKit plugin folder. Then close and reopen Obsidian!

Sorry forgot to mention, there is now expanded shorthand as well to include reversed questions. That solves #7.

As for #8
I hadn't notice the siblings setting earlier, just tried it and unfortunately it didn't work in my case (it was practice session, not due cards). Flashcards in general use the same order every time (following in-note order) which I find as a flaw.
edit: looks like it's an issue for practice session only.

Going back to #1
I tried to replicate the note vanishing and noticed everything placed after flashcards gets deleted after I added group in bulk in flashcard library. I've attached the note in question for better understanding.

edit: the notes were created before supported SR migration of course

Hi, I've pushed a new build with a fix for #1 to stop the deletion of any content after the last flashcard when bulk-editing. Let me know if this resolves the bulk edit deletion problem!

I will look into the remaining issues over the coming couple of weeks.

Okay, I have successfully fixed #1, #4 and #6, I also have added #7. I have slightly improved #8, with additional fuzz. The issue is that with small queues it is very difficult to disperse sibligns there isn't many cards to shuffle in to the mix that are also due.

I do not currently plan on implementing #3, we have had significant scope creep and our settings are very extensive currently. I do not want to bloat this further without more users requesting this option!

As regards to #5 can you send me a screenshot of where you are finding their is excessive spacing, this should be a reasonably quick fix. And for #9 they are not true demos, but example images showing the questions – are the images working for you? They work for me in the Obsidian guide and online documentation.

#2 – I am keen to implement, this is a long team feature plan. I am going to convert this issue to a feature request for that. I do not have a timeline for this, but it is an extension other users have requested.
