1.5.0: fresh notices, and request a widget
Ultimate Crypto Widget 1.5 gives the plugin's notices a fresh look, and adds a way to ask for the widget you need.
A fresh look
The Get started and review notices now come in the plugin's own colours, with its logo, a clear title and one gold button for the main action. They still show only to administrators, only on the Dashboard and the Crypto Widgets screens, and never two at once.
Request a widget
Both notices end with Missing a widget you need? Request it. It opens a new topic in the plugin's WordPress.org support forum, so you can tell us what you'd like to see next.
Star us on GitHub
Next to Leave a review there's now a Star on GitHub button, if you'd like to follow the project there too.
Requirements
WordPress 6.5.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.2 or newer.
1.4.0: Get started, and a review request at the right moment
Ultimate Crypto Widget 1.4 helps new users get going, and asks for a review at a better moment.
Get started
If nobody on your site has added a widget yet, administrators see a short Get started note on the Dashboard and the Crypto Widgets screens, with an Add a widget button. Dismiss it and it's gone for good.
A review request without the wait
Once the plugin is in use (you've saved a widget, copied a shortcode or opened a preview, or a widget is already on a published page), administrators are asked once for a review on WordPress.org:
- Leave a review opens the review form;
- Still new to it, ask me in 3 days puts it off;
- I already did, don't ask again ends it for good.
It's shown only to administrators, only on the Dashboard and the plugin's own screens, never two notes at once, and never to your visitors. Nothing about your site or visitors is sent anywhere.
Requirements
WordPress 6.5.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.2 or newer.
1.3.0: Live prices on every widget
Ultimate Crypto Widget 1.3 gives every widget the Live prices switch.
Nothing to change after updating: the switch is on by default, so your widgets keep updating as before.
Live prices on every widget
Every widget now has the Live prices setting: a checkbox in the widget form, an on/off switch in the block sidebar and Elementor, and live_prices="0" in a shortcode.
- Trending Coins now keeps its prices live while the page is open, like the other coin widgets.
- Market Overview shows totals for the whole market (its value, 24-hour volume, Bitcoin's and Ether's share). The exchanges' live price streams don't carry those, so with Live prices on it refreshes its figures about once a minute, without reloading the page.
Turn Live prices off on any widget to show the figures from when the page loaded, with no connection to outside services from your visitors' browsers.
A short request for a review
After the plugin has been on your site for a week and a widget is in use, administrators see one small notice on the Dashboard and the Crypto Widgets screens, asking for a review on WordPress.org. Leave a review or I already did, don't ask again hide it for good; Maybe later hides it for 30 days. It never appears to visitors or other users.
Requirements
WordPress 6.5.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.2 or newer.
1.2.1: Live prices off on the Quick widget screen
A fix for the Live prices switch added in 1.2.0.
Fixed
- On Crypto Widgets → Quick widget, unticking Live prices left it out of the shortcode, so the widget stayed live. The shortcode now includes
live_prices="0". - In the widget editor, the preview kept showing live prices after you unticked the box, until you saved. It now follows the box straight away.
Saved widgets were not affected: unticking the box and saving always turned live prices off.
If you copied a Quick widget shortcode with live prices off on 1.2.0, add live_prices="0" to it, or make it again.
Requirements
WordPress 6.5.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.2 or newer.
1.2.0: turn live prices on or off for each widget
Ultimate Crypto Widget 1.2 lets you choose, widget by widget, whether prices update live.
Nothing changes after updating: the new switch is on for every widget, so your widgets keep updating exactly as before.
A Live prices switch on every widget
Every widget that updates prices live now has a Live prices setting:
- in the widget's settings under Crypto Widgets, a checkbox;
- in the block editor sidebar and in Elementor, an on/off switch;
- in a shortcode,
live_prices="0"to turn it off, for example[ucwp_widget id="12" live_prices="0"].
Turn it off and the widget shows the prices from when the page loaded. Visitors' browsers then make no connection to Coinbase, Kraken or Binance, which helps if you'd rather not have pages contact outside services, or just want a calm, static widget.
Market Overview and Trending Coins don't update live, so they don't have the switch.
Requirements
WordPress 6.5.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.2 or newer.

1.1.0: a block for every widget, up to 100 coins
Ultimate Crypto Widget 1.1 makes the block editor work like the Elementor panel: every widget has its own block. Widgets can now show up to the top 100 coins, and choosing coins in the block sidebar is much easier.
Nothing to change after updating: your saved widgets, blocks and shortcodes keep working as they are.
A block for every widget
Open the block inserter and you'll find a new Crypto Widgets section with all 24 widgets: Crypto Heatmap, Coin Marquee, Crypto Price Table, Crypto Converter and the rest. Pick one and it's placed with its usual settings, ready to adjust in the sidebar. The block toolbar shows which widget it is.
The general Crypto Widget block is still there too, for showing a widget you've already saved under Crypto Widgets.
Up to the top 100 coins
"Number of coins" now offers the top 25, 50 and 100, as well as 5 and 10. The default is still the top 10. The bigger lists don't use any extra requests to CoinGecko.
Easier coin picking in the block editor
The Coins setting in the block sidebar used to be a small list box where picking several coins meant holding Ctrl. It's now a search box: type part of a coin's name, pick it from the suggestions, and each chosen coin shows as a tag you can remove. Widgets with a limit (such as comparing up to four coins) still stop at it.
Requirements
WordPress 6.5.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.2 or newer.

1.0.0: every widget free, a new design, a block and Elementor
Ultimate Crypto Widget 1.0 is a rebuild of the plugin: a new design, a block and an Elementor element, an important security fix, and all 24 widgets free, including the ones that used to need Pro.
Your saved widgets and shortcodes keep working after the update. The one thing to check: custom CSS written for the old widgets needs updating, because the widgets' HTML and class names are new (ucw-…).
Every widget is free
All 24 widget types are in this plugin, with nothing locked and no license needed:
- Tickers: coin marquees in three designs, price labels in three designs, and price sliders.
- Tables: a ranked price table, a searchable and paged table with market cap, volume and supply, a table of change over a day, a week and a month, and a multi-currency list.
- Charts: a coin's price history over the days you choose, a market heatmap, and an overview of the whole market.
- Cards: price cards, price cards with charts, coin information cards, and an accordion that opens to show a chart.
- Tools: compare two to four coins, a crypto converter, the top gainers and losers, trending coins, and a holdings calculator.
Seven of these are new in 1.0: compare coins, the converter, top movers, the market overview, the heatmap, trending coins and the holdings calculator. Widgets saved with the old Pro plugin now show with this plugin alone.
New
- A Crypto Widget block for the block editor, with a live preview.
- A Crypto Widget element for Elementor.
- A modern design for every widget, with light, dark and automatic colours and an accent colour you choose.
- A live preview while you set a widget up, and a redesigned admin.
- No API key needed. Prices come from CoinGecko's public API; Open Exchange Rates is no longer used.
- Live prices come from Coinbase, then Kraken, then Binance, so they also work for visitors in the United States.
- Every text can be translated, including inside the widgets. Right-to-left languages are supported, and prices follow the page's language.
Security
- Closed a hole that let a visitor run shortcodes through the plugin's REST API. Every REST route now checks who is asking, validates its input and is rate limited. Updating is strongly recommended.
- Draft widgets are no longer visible to visitors.
Performance and fixes
- Scripts and styles load only on pages that show a widget, and the scripts are much smaller.
- Several widgets on one page no longer overwrite each other.
- Prices in a currency other than US dollars are no longer converted with a rounded rate.
- A coin's 24-hour volume is no longer replaced by a wrong figure once live prices arrive.
Requirements
WordPress 6.5.5 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.2 or newer.
